New Place - New System

All, I just joined the community, but have been reading a lot the last week or so with regards to audio systems. I'm almost certain I will be purchasing a Pioneer Kuro 5010FD, getting set up with an HD-DVR and blu-ray player. When it comes to audio I'm pretty conflicted.

I want to stay under $3000, but preferably under $2500. My room is 13.5' x 20'. Wall in the front and back with one side floor to ceiling windows and the other side an open kitchen/counter.

I've been looking at the Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver which I've been seeing in places for around $700-$750. I'm not married to this receiver, but having enough HDMI inputs seems to be somewhat important and at this price point I'm not sure I can do much better.

In terms of a subwoofer I don't think I should be putting in more than $500 with my current price structure - do you have any recommendations?

With regards to speakers the most important thing for me is having front and center speakers that perform well if they are wall mounted. I will be putting the rear speakers on stands. I have heard good things about the NHT Verve on-wall speakers and the BG Radia on-wall speakers, again wondering if you had better recommendations.

Also, how important is it to get a reasonable set of cables, if it is important do you have good recommendations?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks - guess it's safe to say a couple hundred for a reasonable set of HDMI cables and other basics is the right way to go.

From what I understand monoprice is the inexpensive way to go. Blue Jean Cables is "reasonably" priced but the quality is top notch. I would use them if I had it to do all over.

Do you have any sense on whether the NHT speakers would make sense? Especially if on-wall capability is a big selling point for me.

No, you can get a perfectly functional (meaning it will transmit the digital data from one end of the cable to the other with no more or less loss than the most fancy HDMI cable) for less than $20. If you have an HD satallite or HD cable provider they may provide a few HDMI cables to you for free if you need them. Mono price has extremely cheap HDMI cables as well.:)

On-wall speakers

Check out the EMP on-wall speakers reviewed on this site and available in the AH store. I am not sure if the BOGO sale is still going. Axiom also has an on-wall version of their speakers.

Also check out the AV123 MFW-15 sub ($600) in your price range or one of the 10"-12" subs from SVS or HSU.
