I recently got a new receiver and some bookshelf speakers Klipsch KB-15. Forgive me for not being very good with this stuff yet. I hooked an optical cable to the TV and hooked Cable box to TV by HDMI. Sounds fair but with one problem. The sound from the TV lags behind the video. Very noticeable. If I change my hookup by going HDMI from Cable to Receiver then HDMI from TV back to Receiver and use the optical output will that help?

Basically the best option is always when possible to just use a TV as a screen and nothing else.

Connect all your peripherals to your receiver and just use one HDMI cable form you receiver to the TV. The only function you should ever use on the TV is on and off.

I have three TVs in all, and the only function ever used is the on/off function. TVs are now loaded up with garbage, that has no business residing in a TV.

It is always the best option to use TVs as just screens. The only function you need to know on a TV is on/off.

So connect all your peripherals to your receiver by HDMI. Use one HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV. Just look at a TV as the video equivalent of how a loudspeaker handles the audio output of your receiver.

when you want to listen through the 523, simply turn the volume down on the TV.

It tends to be such a minimal delay that turning the TV speakers down will make it a non-issue.

But...

If the cable box is hooked to the TV via HDMI, then the sound from the TV speakers is derived from the same HDMI cable as the video. In such case, the audio lag is internal to the TV or cable box and theres not a heckuva lot that can be done about that.

What that "optical cable hooked to the TV" is doing, I have no idea. Where does it come from and where in the TV does it go?
