I just finished installing my new VSX. Just wanted to give a short amateur review. I love it! Very easy to set up. The speaker calibration is spot on. Makes my crappy HTIB speakers sound like only half way crappy speakers! The Ipod plug and play is a really nice feature. The remote is well laid out and easy to use. I watched LOTR, Top Gun and The Spirit all yesterday and was blown away. I have it paired with a Sharp Aquos BD and a JVC 47" hdtv. It will take a while to get enough of a budget for speakers, but when I have it...look out!
Anyone looking at this receiver should take a look at Vanns.com for $579.00 no tax, no shipping and factory warranty. This deal would be tough to beat.

Is it possible to play zone-2 audio with the main zone off?

Does the AVR need to be powered on in order to use HDMI? or will it pass through with no power?

example, I want to watch a movie late at night and use tv's speakers or headphones. I don't want to have the Elite on just for video.

thx

You turn that on and off by pressing the RECEIVER button on the remote, followed by the AUDIO PARAMETER button. If you cycle down the list, you'll come to the MIDNIGHT selection. (It's described on page 73 of the manual.)

I think that it's too bad that they took the direct access button for that off of the remote control. My VSX-1015TX has that.

What is the abbreviation, I do not see it?

I'm not sure which abbreviation you're asking about.

The AUDIO PARAMETER button is located near the center of the remote control, up and left of the "wheel." It is labeled "5" on the diagram of the remote on page 28 of the manual.

According to the manual, the setting in the menu is called "MIDNIGHT".
Yes, I read that but mine does not have that word even as I work my way down the menu, guess I will have to call Pioneer?

HIBIT comes after Delay on mine.
From the owner's manual:
Owner's Manual said:
Note that if a setting doesn’t appear in the Audio Parameter menu, it is unavailable due to the current source, settings and status of the receiver.
The Midnight mode is just another name for dynamic range compression. I believe that you need to have the receiver set to a surround mode that uses the digital processor such as Dolby Digital or DTS.
