New Pioneer Elite and Denon Receivers

I am looking at purchasing a new receiver in the next month or so and I was wondering if anyone knew any detailed specs on the new Pioneer Elite VSX-92 and 94. I also noticed that Denon released the new AVR-3808 and I was wondering if anyone heard anything about a 2000 series (maybe 2808) version coming soon?

I am looking at the $700-1300 range so previously I was looking at the Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS and since Denon's offerings were at least a generation behind on the technologies it was a no brainer. Now it seems that Pioneer is releasing the new VSX-92 and there might even be a new Denon 2000 series in the pipeline so I was wondering if anyone had any details on either since I have not been able to find any on either of their websites. New Denon and Pioneers

I don't have detailed specs on the new Pioneers, however I think I can get them. It will take me a day or two, but I will look and repost.

As for the Denon, my information is that we will see a new 2308 and 2808 which will bear the same price as their predecessors. I unfortunately have no information on what these new Denons will change or not change from their predecessors.

Though I have no confirmation on this I would expect to see the new Denon's within the month of August, and I believe Pioneer has given August as a release month for the 92 and 94.

Thank you for looking for this info for me. I saw a press release from Pioneer that did state an august ship date for the 92 and 94 however no real specs were defined at that time just some vague features. As for the Denon 2308 and 2808 is there any way to get specs for those. I am basically in the position of having to replace my receiever before expected due to a power surge. As a result I am currently without my theater system. I am willing to wait for the Denon 2308 or 2808 as well as the Pioneer Elite VSX-92 if their features are worth waiting for. Otherwise I will pick up the Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS.

Pioneer v Denon

Yeah, all I can find on the Denon models is speculation (a couple sites list specs, but it looks like they are just guessing.)

It was the press release that I saw (http://pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/press/release/detail/0,,2076_310069589_441424387,00.html) and you're right, just a few feature listings (CEC, 1080p 24hz via Faroudja, lossless DTS-HD master audio and dolby trueHD, THXSelect2.)

For the record I am surprised that they stuck with Faroudja for the processor with so much talk about the Silicon Optics lately.

From the speculation on the Denons floating around, it sounds like they may not have the DTS-HD or Dolby True-HD, and that would be a deal breaker for me.

The Pioneer 94 I think is going to be around 1600, you might want to consider the Denon 3808 at 1600ish (audioholics has some preview specs here - http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/receivers/denon-avr-3808ci-first-look)

I'll let you know if I encounter more info.

matthewdclarkaz, thank you for looking. I am impressed by the 3808's features however, I think at the current time it is a little outside my price range (im pushing my limits at $1300).

Also, I heard allot of people complaining about artifacts from the upscaling on the VSX-82TXS and I was wondering if this issue has been addressed by Pioneer by coming up with a firmware update or revision of the 82 or did they fix this in the 92.

people are making a big deal about dtshd and truehd when it comes to receivers for no good reason. As far as I know there aren't any players that even pass dtshd or truehd through bitstream yet. If you look at the Dolby spec for truehd they recommend and state that the player should do the processing and pass the signal as pcm for best results and compatibility. As long as the receivers supports multi channel pcm you should be golden. Unless you're willing to pay extra money to see the truehd and dtshd light on

For the time being your right, having the decoding on the receiver isn't a big deal, however if I am looking at two receivers of pretty close quality and price, and one has the decoding and one doesn't, I think it's a no brainer to get the one that does.

Also, I believe the main reason why they recommend PCM right now is because it is all that has been available. The New Pioneer and Sony Blu-ray players have bitstream available for the new formats.

The recently announced Denon DVD-2500BTCI appears to be the first to fit the bill. It's a BD transport without internal decoders that would require that task be done by the processor/AVR.
