I know my setup is lacking but thought maybe could get some advice. I'll start with what I currently am working with. Avr-s720w L.R. mains - monitor 70 polk. Center - cs10 Polk. Surround - monitor 70 again. Ceiling speakers little onkyo bookshelf speakers on mounts. Amp assign set top front and are located about 20* forwards 9 foot ceilings. Sub#1 - psw110 polk Sub#2 - 10" onkyo downward firing front port. Est. 100 watts. I'm thinking about first upgrading my center to a CSi A6 240$. Second can get two polk psw505s new for 400$ from ebay. To replace the subs I have. Future plan is to upgrade to the RTi series but before I do anything figure I should get some advice. The avr is rated @ 165 max watts per channel and I'm sure I'm already at its limit? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! As I'm on a tight budget this has started to become a hobby. Also I did buy the 20$ audyssey app and set it up. Set all speakers small with m70 set @ 40hz, center is @ 60hz, top @ 110hz. Using lfe and set @ 120hz. All speakers ar around 10 feet from sweet spot and angled toward that spot. Perfect triangle front sound view.

Unless you live outside the US, I'd avoid more polk subs, as there are better $ to performance subs available. Also you crossover seems to low on the mains.

Any suggestions on subs? And what should the monitor 70s be set to. The audyssey set them full band (large) all 4. I just looked up specks and ran with it.

Specs on the M70 say f3 of 40hz, so you want an 1/2 to an octave above so 60 or 80. The small speaker setting is correct as that directs the lower frequency to the subs. You could also try lfe plus main as the 70s probably can keep up with your current subs, but not when you upgrade.

As for subs I'd look at HSU, SVS, and rythmik. Even at a good price of Ebay, the 505s wont do much for HT, but would likely be fine for music only.

So set the m70's to 60 and leave the center @ 60 or should I bump that up to 80?
Thanks for the advice on subs.
What about my avr? Think it has good enough power to push 4 m70's? And soon a csi a6 center. Probably upgrade the atmos speakers.

I'd move the center up as well.

As for your AVR, if your getting the appropriate volume at your main set without distortion your fine. Most of the time we barely use a watt or two. I dont see a sensitivity listed for the mains, but if we assume 88db one watt one meter, it would take 3 watts to play 88dbs at your main seat, which is loud.

Upgrade paths are speakers and subs, then AVRs if your missing features or need more headroom .

Does you room open up to other rooms?

Dont pay attention to watts, it's the design and driver that make the sub. With regards to the kitchen opening, a good sub will see the opening. A 20hz wave length is just over 56 feet. A pb1000 is very good entry level sub and well engineered. The HSU vtf2 is as well.

A sub that get undeservedly overlooked a lot is the Hsu VTF-1 mk3. It has pretty good extension down below 30 Hz, and at 40 Hz and above, it really kicks like a mule in 2 ports mode. Few other 10" subs can keep up with it at 40 Hz and above in 2 ports mode. One of the only ones that could is the Paradigm Defiance X10 but that is more than twice the cost.
