Nine Inch Nails has released their new album Ghosts I-IV online only with quite a bit of options which I think most of you guys will like: 36 tracks in album

$5 download only:
You have the option from choosing the following DRM-free formats
320kbps LAME encoded MP3
FLAC
Apple Lossless

$10 2cds and download in the above format options

$75 Deluxe Edition - same as above with the following
DVD with all the songs in .wav so you can remix as you like
Blu-ray with the songs in 24-bit/96Khz audio

$300 Limited Edition - same as above with the following
4 180g LPs and more books and goodies

Plus you can also download the first 9 tracks for free from the NIN website or from many torrents such as piratebay (320kbps MP3 and Trent Reznor actually allowed the torrent sites to do this)

http://ghosts.nin.com/main/order_options

I've been trying to order the 2CDs but the site has been getting hammered since last night.

If it's mixed to sound dynamic and not plain loud, then you should be able to hear a difference (and if you have a setup that's pretty good I'd imagine).

got it

I did the pre-order and downloaded the apple lossless. The album ranges from ambient and loop-laden, to punchy and noisy. Reznor has done instrumental stuff before (see The Downward Spiral and The Fragile), and there are similarities here. I think any fan of electronic (such as Warp records) or post-rock (like Mogwai) music will enjoy it.

As for the production, it sounds pretty good to me. Overall, it's not as compressed as some of the stuff on Year Zero and With Teeth, but I don't have a very good system. There's a lot of flange and similar effects that make use of a stereo setup. I'm sure the 5.1 is an interesting experience.

Downloaded the FLACs.

I'm very pleased (esp. for only $5). I've often thought Reznor should just go instrumental. I was a huge NIN fan for a while, but I honestly got tired of the relentless angsty overwrought vocals (my humble opinion). But I thought some of instrumental passages on earlier albums were fantastic.

So this is really the NIN release I've been waiting for since The Downward Spiral back in the day. It won't be for everyone - it could pass for a soundtrack album, with all the good and bad things that implies.

Me? I couldn't be happier with it. I'm really looking forward to Ghosts V-VIII!

I just did the $5 download. I'm not sure I'll ever listen to it, but want to support the concept. This is how music should be sold.

The new nin sounds very sterile to me. Its not as warm as his other albums and no lyrics?Just what we all were waiting for an electronic cornicopia of crap....
