New Neighbor Appreciation

Hey all, been lurking for quite some time and now I have genuine content to add!

Current system is going to be completely upgraded short of my 5 RBH WM-30's. This poor stereo has been moved around the country, and has been missing having a subwoofer for the last 2 years. So I'm planning out X-Mas to myself and now need advice on the sub.

While I will not skimp on the other components, the sub just needs to accomplish a basic need of low frequency output to mate with the RBH. I am about to move again and will now have an upstairs neighbor. If its like most places in Laguna, sturdy walls with plaster board will seperate us.

So what sub would you recommend that will just do an adequate job of low frequency reproduction with out the need for high SPL? Listening content is 50/50 music and movies.

I cannot provide exact measurements at this time, but the front wall is a good 20 ft x 12 ft on the side. Not ideal but oh well. Corner placement will NOT be an option, but I can definitely get the sub close to my couch.

Rhythmik 12" sealed subs seem to fit the bill as do the new Emotiva's, but am looking for additional input. I am not looking to plumb the depths with a sub, I just need a taste of oomph and thats it. Sub dudes, and other ceiling mounted accoustical treatments are already being considered as well so my new neighbor likes me :)

If you are about to move, wait until you move before you buy anything. That way, you will have less to move, and it will be less likely to be damaged in shipping, and you will know how big the room is and how much space you have. Also, you may find that you simply cannot use a subwoofer at all, as you may find that your satellite speakers are quite sufficient for bothering your neighbor.

Thats why I am looking a couple months ahead, I'll give my neighbor time to adapt to surround sound, and be able to tweak it as necessary to not piss her off. I'll even do 3.1 if I really have to....

Any other suggestions on subs? I just wanna have a whole budget ready to go when its time to click and buy!

Rythmic F12 costs $799 is good choice, but
Same price gets you Epic Empire or a pair of Emotiva Ultra 12" subs.
I'd pick the later

The Epik seems cool, but I worry about their quality, given that they can use dual drivers with a 1" cabinet for the same price as the others. And the price is listed 3 times as MSRP, and then two reduced costs for whatever reason. I've seen a handful of comments on here about them, but not many people seem to actually own them.

Sigh, maybe I just need to buy a pair of Axiom EP-800's and tell my neighbor to either come down and enjoy the show with me, or piss off!! :)
