Hello all my name is Jay, and I am looking to upgrade my system.

I currently have a Denon Avr 3806 and I am going to replace that with Yamaha RX-A810. I also Have Polk Audio speaker I think there like 6 years old R or C series I forget off hand.

I was thinking of replacing them with

Boston Acoustics A 2310 HTS 5.1

or MartinLogan MLT-2 5.1CH

Now I can get the Boston for $670 and the Martinlogan for $300. I really don't want to spend any more the 700 for speakers wife would have my head.

What would you guys suggest out of those two or maybe you have other speaker around that range you recommend. I am at work so I don't have messurments of room but its pretty good size it's like a sun room has lots of windows

Thank you all in advance

I would wait for the Infinity P163 to go back on sale for $85 shipped and get 5 for $425.

Or get five of the P163 @ $72 each= $360.

Amazon.com: Infinity Primus Two-Way 5 1/4-Inch Bookshelf/Satellite Speaker (Black, Each): Electronics

Then get the Infinity 12" active subwoofer for $280.

Amazon.com: Infinity Powered 12IN Subwoofer 400 Watt: Home Audio & Theater

Or get the BIC PL200 for $278 shipped.

Or the BIC F12 for $192.

Amazon.com: BIC America F12 12-Inch 475-Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer: Electronics

I would save money - and buy this Yamaha receiver
http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-A800-7-1-Channel-Audio-Receiver/dp/B003XDU498/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1320608869&sr=1-1

That way you have money for a better sub - do not cheap out
on a decent sub.
Also, take a look at the Boston HS series speakers.

The Martin Logan MLT-2, is pretty much a Paradigm Cinema.

The 3806 is a good receiver. Is there a specific reason why you are upgrading the receiver? I have a feeling the Yamaha will be a replacement, but not necessarily and upgrade.

Listen to the Martin Logans before you buy. I read all the reviews and went to listen to them. I didn't care for the towers (10 & 12). The bookshelves were better, but that could be that they were so high my ear was well below the tweeters.

What size room do you have, and what are your listening habits? You list 5.1 systems that you are interested in, do you currently have a 5.1 setup?

If I were you I would keep the Denon and put the money into speakers.

$700 max? For a few hundred more your scratching the realm of some seriously good speakers, if you were willing to start with two channel and add to it over time. May help with the WAF too.

If that approach is a possiblility, check out Salk SongBirds or Philharmonic 1s for a taste of what I'm suggesting. I would even be willing to gamble on AJ's Soundfield Monitor 1s in that price range (I think he's asking $1300), and they reportedly kick some butt.

It's a longer term approach to putting your system together, but the results will be better, and probably less expensive in the long run (by avoiding upgraditis...just save some ducats and go first class from the get-go). If improvements/upgrades are what you're after, focus on the speakers (and room).

Thank you all for the quick response,

Well the reason I was upgrading my reciever just assumed it was time. I had it for a very long time plus I was looking for more HDMI inputs and I notice there are new versions of HDMI connection out then what my reciever had.

I also was helping a buddy setup his new system and it sounded very very nice compare to mine he had harman kardon reciever and I forget what speakers. So I decided its time to upgrade

then get 2.0 stereo speakers like Magnepan MMG, EMP e55ti or Aperion VGB.

You cant afford 5.0 much less 5.1

^ This ^ or wait for the next sale and snag 2x P163, 1x PC251 center, and 2x P153 bookshelves as surrounds.
Edit: It looks like Newegg has P163 on sale for $70ea. If you wife will let you get away with 5 of those that would rock!

Is there a reason for replacing the receiver? As long as it's still working I'd keep the receiver and put that money into a really good subwoofer like a Rythmik FV12. If you just need more HDMI inputs you can always add a 4-port HDMI switch for less than $50.

Correction from above post: AJ's speakers are only $1000, not $1300.
