I saw this last night with a friend.
At first, I laughed at the Twilight series. I laughed at all the stupid girls screaming over it, and thought nothing of it's story, books, or anyone involved. Then, curiosity got the better of me, and I had to see what all the fuss was about. After watching the first, I realized, the screaming fans were ruining what was a halfway decent story. I never read the books, and don't plan on it (author is a nut) but I do look forward to seeing the rest of the films.
My gripes with this film, and the first, is Bella. The way she acts, is so rough, choppy, unrealistic, and not easily swallowed. Every time she does her shudder, and studder, I cringe. If she was played by an actress with some talent, these movies would be far better.
Although Jacob has "grown" up, I still can't match his image, with his voice. He still sounds like a 16 year old piss head. Also, he seems to struggle with his lines, and his emotion is not conveyed convincingly.
Aside from the above, and the cheese lines, I really did enjoy this movie. I don't understand why people are complaining about the CGI. This movie cost 50M to make. The CGI is better IMO then underworld, where it looked like claymation. It was a little soft, not superbly detailed like LOTR or Transformers, but that isn't the main draw for this movie, nor is it the statement it's trying to make. I'm not saying it's statement is valid or even remotely decent, it's just not CGI.
Oh, Dakota Fanning was surprisingly good. And by good, I mean not annoying.
