New Micro-Size Home Theater

My wife and I recently moved in with her parents in order for us to be able to save up for a down payment on a house (dude, seriously, **** southern california).

Anyways, I had to sell my Mitsu 55" and get something that would fit better into one of the bedrooms they're letting us use.

New editions to the family are:

- Vizio 42" LCD TV (720p native)
- APC H15BLK (1500VA) AVR/Power Filter
- New TV Stand

Soon after moving in I noticed that the power in her parents neighborhood was unsable to say the lest. Many times through the night the entire house will experience quick brown outs where all the lights in the house will dim then come back up.

Her father has actually nuked two DVR's. He thinks they were bum units but I suspect otherwise ;-)

I kept an eye on my Monster Power center and saw that in the evenings the power averaged around 110 to 115, with drops as low as 100.

Anywho, I picked up the APC in an effort to stave off equipment death. The unit itself is pretty slick because of it's Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR). It has three settings:

Narrow - Handles input voltages of 102-132v, Regulates to +/-5% of 120v
Normal- Handles input voltages of 97-132v, Regulates +/-10% of 120v
Wide - Handles input voltages of 92-145v, Regulates to +/-15% of 120v

I'm running it on Normal right now to see how it handles.

ANYWHO, This is my system for now :)

Just thought I'd share the new setup.

Looks pretty nice to me. What are the rubbery looking things on the left and top of the TV?

Ok, I should have guessed it was just an artifact like a reflection, but that would have been way too simple...

Nice little setup. Man, my feelings go out to you having to shack up with the inlaws. Housing is outrageous in SoCal. People actually do live for their mortgage payments out your way.

Are you at least on different floors?

Tell me about it. Median house price out here is $400,000. And that's for a ~1,200 sq. ft. home pretty far inland. We're probably going to stay here for 6-8 months and just save up. We have a down payment, but being able to pay off our cars first would be rad.

We're using two of the three bedrooms upstairs. One is our 'entertainment room' (pictured above) and the other is used as a bedroom. They're house is pretty large (3,500 sq. ft.), so we all have plenty of room to roam :p

That is why my wife and I moved to Ohio. We bought our first home here, it is a 3 bed 1 bath ranch on 1/2 an acer for $68,750...and I'm 2.5 miles from work...got to love the mid-west :D

How do you like your Vizio? I was going to buy the 46 the other night at the Billings Costco but I found out at the register they only take American Express.

I am painting my make-shift home theater room today, it's supposed to be tea green but it looks exactly like a green olive to me. I thought I might paint the ceiling bright pimento red.

I can only compare it to other TV's I've seen regularly such as my friends Panasonic Plasma and my previous Mitsu Rear Projection. I must say the picture on the Vizio LCD looks CRISP. I think this is the case for any LCD display though, because the pixels are very individual on the screen, and dont get muddled together by projection.

So one thing I noticed right off is Macroblocking in HD signals, only because previously on my rear projection, they wouldn't have been displayed so sharply.

Otherwise, a GREAT display. It also runs fairly cool. I still need to dig out my copy of Home Theater Essentials and conifugre the display. Otherwise, stunning.

Thanks!

I've actually had them for about five years now. I found a reseller on the east coast back in 2001 who cut me a REALLY great deal on them. They sound great.
