New member, same old positioning question

Hello, I'm Alex all the way from New Zealand.

Like most people I have to compromise on my viewing space. My lounge is goes against everything you want in a home theatre setup. Full height windows, Ranch Sliders, double cavity sliders and big windows.

My Front L & R channels ideal spot is right where the windows are, which from my understanding is less than ideal. And I'm still working on the sub placement.

Heres a rough ideal of what I'm working with:

As you can see, less than perfect.

So my main questions are the rear surrounds, in terms of positioning are they fine outside of the fronts? or would the be better suited if I spread my fronts out further.

The big questions come if I want to go down the ATMOS path lol.

The surround speakers are probably the only place they can be. At least they’re up high and not at ear level. Wouldn’t hurt my feelings to put the speakers in front of the windows. Mine are. If you think it sounds worse, it’s easy enough to move them back.

I'd have to put some cool looking planter boxes in front of those windows for some houseplants and some curtains maybe.

The people who built it had no idea. All the original speaker and hdmi cables ran to the other side of the house to the dining room, about 35 ft away.

So its not a major having them by the windows? The trouble with the room, is despite the carpet and furniture it can be a bit echoey in places.

Some blackout curtains and moderate acoustic treatments will solve that issue.
