I am building a new home and have my HT being wired for 7.1 . I do not own any equipment yet. I am considering getting the Klipsch Synergy C-2 center , F-2 towers , S-2 surrounds x 2 , and 12" sub. The package should run ~$1900. Are there better options at this price? Also considering the Yamaha 5890 receiver at ~$550. Any suggestions?

upping the anti on the receiver and going for the Yamaha 5990? I believe the 5890 doesn't have HDMI connections which would at least future proof you for a couple of year.

New HT

Do you like the Klipsch horn loaded sound? Many like their higher end Reference line over the lower end synergies. There are several speaker options in your $2K price range so try to listen to a few of them. Some of the manufacturers like Axiom audio and Rocket (av123.com) are internet direct and you generally get more for the money.

The Yamaha HTR-5890 is equivalent to the RX-V1500. You sould be able to get a better deal ($500 or less) now that new models are out. I would stick with authorized online dealers.

I have been looking at the Axiom Epic Grand Master 175 and have a friend who has Onix Rockets. Which is a better value at $2k? What are pros and cons of each?

Only you can answer that question. What sounds great to me may sound horrible to you. The only solution is adution every speaker that is in you price range that you can. Bring your own cd to the auditions, one that you are familiar with. Audtion, auditioin, audition. Good luck and try to have fun in the process.

Axiom vs. Rockets

Axiom Audio and AV123 are both internet companies and both have great return policies. Consider buying a pair of the bookshelf speakers from each and doing your own audition. The rockets probably have an edge on looks, but sound is pretty subjective. Both companies make pretty good subs but a lot of people consider the 10" subs from SVS and HSU to be a better value.

P.S. speakers do not have to match the sub.
