New Home Construction - How big should the A/V room be?

I'm building a new home in Oklahoma. Right now the media room is 11' x 23' but that is mainly due to the size of the rooms next to it. How do I decide how big the room should be? Do you have some sort of a guide that translates screen size to room size?

For what it's worth when I think of a budget for a system I found my self drawn to your $5K to $7.5K videocentric systems.

Congradulations on getting to build an A/V room from the ground up. I can't help you with your room size, but I do know this, Now is time to get it together and plan on your electronics install. I built a house in Florida and had an A/V Company come in and wire my equipment closet, Zone 1, and Zone 2, those being the great room and master bedroom RIGHT AFTER the electricians. I used Niles everywhere I could, and even ran speakers in the garage! Yes we used the garage speakers quit often over the years.

I would have wired it myself, but I'm in a wheelchair and those days are gone. Anyways, everything but my speakers were hidden. I can't wait to do it again :)

For the most part, the bigger the better in terms of room size. I'd stay away from 11x22 since those are double each other obviously. There are no perfect dimensions - all one can do is avoid particularly bad ones.

As for wiring, please, please do your planning early. I can't tell you how many rooms have been compromised in terms of setup by having wiring done and then realizing that it's not in the best place.

Unfortunately there are many variables taken into account when building a HT from scratch making the decisions difficult. For example, in that room you could have a 108"x60" (124" dia) acoustically tranparent screen w/ speakers behind it or a 87"x49" (100" dia) screen w/ in-room speakers. Either way you still have room for multi-tier seating.
