Was referred to this site just the other day - no, I wasn't booted from another site:D

Just like to find like minded listeners

I enjoy prog - short for progressive rock. In my warped line of thinking, Prog is a genre, that is to say, Prog is either: music from the progressive rock movement of the '70s, or music from other eras that sound like it. Bands like Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson of course, but modern era acts like:

Porcupine Tree
Frost*
Marillion
Satellite
The Flower Kings
Spock's Beard - to name just a few

I also enjoy "indie rock" and I say that in quotes because I realize the trm 'indie' doesn't really apply to bands with major label contracts  but the term 'indie' seems to have a consensus meaning from board to board. Here's a short list:

Radiohead
Modest Mouse
Supper Furry Animals
The Shins
Built To Spill
The Decemberists

I find a lot of Indie rock has some similarities to Prog; while musicianship isn't as central to indie as it is prog, indie pays as much attention to the same aspects of music as prog does, such as mood, ambience and theme.

Both prog and some 'indie' acts could fall under the umbrella of Art Rock.

I do dabble in Jazz and Classical from time to time, but not as much.

I think you will find plenty of Porcupine Tree friends here :) Welcome.

I got tired of The Shins really fast...but I loved the Garden State soundtrack.

Tastes around here seem to be just about everything except mainstream pop, so whether it's prog or indie or any of the other 2 or 3 hundred sub-genres, you might find some interesting suggestions.
