I may be getting a new HD display via Tweeter's warranty.I'm in a little bit of a quandry due to all the talk between Plasmas,LCD,CRT and DLP.I think i've come down between a panasonic 42" hd plasma and a sony 34" xbr.My viewing is everything from sd to HD and dvd.I have to stay within the size limits due to my wallunit. My dilema is between these sets which would be my best bet.PQ is very important to me so i like the plasmas but am afraid of the burnin issues(am i wrong?)I would consider one of the other's lcd or dlp if it's warranted.I'm also trying to keep the price under 3k.Would appreciate any advice or insight you guys can give me since i'll be getting the set within 2 weeks.Sorry for long post.FWIW i have directtv using HD dvr(h10-250).thanks

The Sony 34" is a CRT, correct??? CRT's still have the best PQ over all other currently available technologies and the Sony's are among the best CRTs that you can still buy new. Plasma, DLP, LCoS, and LCD don't do blacks very well with LCD seeming to be the worst in that area.

I wouldn't be so sure of that, at least as far as reliability is concerned. I have a friend that runs an electronics store that sells and repairs equipment in many price ranges. He says Sony is, by far, the worst when it comes to longevity. This is a guy with 30+ years experience who has worked on thousands of TV's. He said they have gotten worse over time and he doesn't even bother selling them anymore.

Panasonic and Sanyo have had consistently reliable and long lasting tubes in his experiences.

Now, if you aren't concerned with reliability and longevity then they pcture quality may very well be the determining factor. Still, I own a Sanyo 27" CRT and I don't see how the picture could get any better (with standard defenition of course).
