I've found this forum after spending several days viewing posts on stereophile, which was quite helpful.

Hadn't purchased any audio stuff since late 1980's until yesterday when I got a Marantz single disc CD player. I like 2-channel and prefer a dedicated system for that, home theater later.

Still using 1989 Proton D540 integrated amp and Nakamichi CR1A tape deck, now with the Marantz CD. Have old Boston Acoustics A60's, just got new woofers today from BA, can't wait to get home and hook 'em up. Also have a pair of old BA T-1000's, may also need new woofers and midranges.

May upgrade to separate amp/pre-amp components, looking at Anthem stuff right now. May also upgrade speakers, going to listen to Paradigm, Monitor Audio and System Audio (all carried locally at a great local high-end dealer). However, if the old BA's still sound as good to me as they did before, will likely still use them.

Any suggestions welcome.

Welcome to the forum hawkfan.

I think you're on the right track. Use what you have, and if it sounds great, you are set. If you're lacking, then, yes, the next upgrade is speakers. I love my 'digms...so I am partial. There are many great speakers out there if you eventually choose to go that route.
