I am fairly new to home theater and am needing a little bit of help... I am in a dilema because I am looking to buy a good setup for our huge living room (25 wide x 45 long x 9 high) for 2-3k. Only half of that is spent as the living area though. Any suggestions on a good setup would be greatly appreciated. My original budget was 2k but knowing how much of a pain this may be and depending on the the sound difference I may be able to stretch up to 3k if needed. It will be for about 75% HT and 25% music.

Does this include the display?

Take a look at this , but get it as 5.0 Think about this sub while its is discounted to 799. An avr like this and a 5ch amp like this or this and you will be in your budget :D Feel free to sub speakers in and out and avrs, but I recommend the amp and the sub without reservation

+1 Bored's suggestion but I would probably go with 2 PC12-Plus subs to try to come close to filling that 10,000cuft of space. Even two might not be quite enough but it's a darn good start.

If 4 tower speakers are too hard to place then I'd consider buying two P362s, the PC350 center, and substitute two P162s bookshelf speakers as surrounds. The thing to keep in mind is that speakers are very subjective and what we like might not be to your taste. If I were you I'd try to put in some listening time at your local dealer.

A second, less complete, but I think much more deluxe option and that I would give serious consideration to is a pair of EMP Impression Series E55Ti towers for $800 shipped from the Audioholics Store, and an EMP Impression E5Ci Center Channel Speaker for $220 shipped and forget the surrounds until you have saved a bit more. Then add a refurbished Onkyo TX-SR707 for $500 + S&H. That brings us up to $1500 and a pair of SVS PC12-Plus are going to take you about $400 over your $3000 budget (plus shipping on the subs) but it's a nice option. I only know the EMPs by reputation but it's a nice reputation. You can always go back and add surrounds later. Fine looking speakers! FWIW I bought a refurbished Onkyo receiver from accessories for less last year and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

+1 monoprice.com for all cables and interconnects!

25x45 is a huge room, and one I have no experience filling. Does anyone have experience specifically with their recommendations and rooms this size?

My combined living room, family room, and kitchen are open to each other and are about 3/4 that size. That's why I suggest that with rare exceptions a single sub ain't gonna be enough. The OP would be smart to contact SVS and have them size a sub (or 2 or 3) for that space.

two subs minimum

a single sub will never be enough for a room of size 25X45, he would need more to get a better sound experience
I agree two subs minimum.
Subs that I recommend are HSU, SVS and Velodyne.
