New guy needs sub advice

Hi everyone i am kind of new to this. I have the Martin logan vision sound bar. had it for a bit now would like to add a sub to it. Price range i want to keep the around 1200 or less. I have looked a few from HSu and martin logan.


Heres the ones i have looked at

VTF-15H Subwoofer

VTF-3 MK4 Subwoofer


ML

Dynamo 1500 and 1000

I just want a nice one that i wont say i wish i would have bought a bit better. Is there any others i should consider? Any one have the same set up as me? Also it will be for maily movies.

I would forget the ML subs. They are not bad generally, but they are a bit overpriced when compared to dedicated sub manufacturers. The Hsus are good, and there is a good discount on the current VTF3 mk4 and VTF15h, however they are being replaced in a couple months by the next iterations of those subs, the VTF3 mk5 and VTF15h mk2, which look to have a big performance increase, especially in the case of the VTF3, where the mk5 looks to nearly double the performance of the mk4. There might be further price drops on the current VTF3 and VTF15h in the meantime, as they will no doubt want to clearance them out for the new versions. Another thing, with a 1200 budget, you might also think about dual Hsu VTF2 mk4s or dual Rythmik LV12rs. I would also take a close look at the Reaction Audio PV15X.

Welcome to the forums!

To make a better subwoofer recommendation, its helpful to know a bit about your room, i.e. dimensions, whether it's open to other areas or sealed off, etc. In any case, I'm not sure there's much point in getting a heavy hitter like the VTF-15H, as it can more than likely run away from your soundbar in terms of output capabilities.

SVS subs are also excellent. Both makers specialize in subs and, dollar for dollar, both produce better subs than M/L if that's what you're asking.

I'd suggest something along the lines of the Hsu VTF-2 or Rythmik LV12R. I don't expect either would have any big issues keeping up with the ML Motion Vision.

What is the freq response on your sound bar? You may need to insure the sub can play up to its low freq.

I own a Rythmik LV12-R and its a phenomenal sub for my area. I suspect that you may need to go bigger for a room your size. Here's the link to Rythmik Servo subwoofers •Rythmik Audio Direct Servo subwoofers. I would also look at SVS, HSU, and Outlaw subs..all of these also offer solid subs.

That is a pretty decent budget for a sub...IMO there is a fairly large difference going from the $1200 sub range to a 600-800 range. If a single sub is a must...I'd go for the largest, most affordable sub to fit my needs(1k-1.2k) or buy 2 of the smaller sub that have already been mentioned. All of the afformetioned sub would work great....I seldom refer to/or recommend products I own but you'd be wise to include PSA into that mix.

Why not recommend what you own? You have first hand experience and can share the strength and weaknesses of your equipment. That's how I see it .

BTW, you are long over due for a raise.
