Hey all, glad to be here. I have a question re: audio connectivity. I have a Denon 5.1 receiver, and my cd, blu ray, cable box, tv and windows 7 laptop, connected with HRT DAC are all hooked into the Denon I recently hooked up and configured my laptop to tv via HDMI cable to watch video content stored on the laptop on my tv. The video is fine, but the audio comes from the tv and not from the speakers. If I disconnect the HDMI cable all is fine, but I have to watch Rabbit of Seville on the laptop. Any idea how to get audio out through the receiver,or is it impossible because HDMI carries A and V? Thanks for any assist.

Is your TV hooked up to the Denon Receiver via one of the digital inputs? Or do you have the HRT Dac connected to the RCA inputs of the receiver and the usb from your laptop ? Those are great dacs; I love mine. In which case, the solution is probably to configure the laptop so it sends the audio out to the receiver. I don't know how to do that using Windows but that is how I have my Mac Mini connected (DVI to HDMI to the TV and the audio out from the mac to powered monitors).

Correct me if I am wrong:

Your Denon doesn't have HDMI

You are going HDMI from laptop to TV

You are going USB from laptop to HRT to Receiver

If so you need to specify your audio output device to the external sound card.
