New Guy - JBL PSW-1000

Hello all,
New guy here with a few questions, but I'll start off with this one. I just recently fished an old JBL PSW-1000 out of my closet that I had bought back in my college years. It does, and always has, suffered from a wake-up problem. It's very random when and if it will decided to wake up from sleep mode. I can usually force it to wake up by cranking up the bass at the receiver and maxing out the volume at the sub itself. It would be nice if it was a little more consistent in its behavior, and would cut in at a more moderate level. Any suggestions or should I just live with it? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Audioholics !!!

Sounds like the amp in the sub needs a strong signal to trigger on. Not sure if there is much you can do with an issue like that. Does the sub have a power setting to stay constantly on ? That would do the trick but would need to be turned off manually.

Thank you kindly for the reply. It does seem to have a hearty appetite. Interestingly enough, today I was messing around with the setup and made some progress. The sub has high level inputs and outputs that I was utilizing previously (receiver to sub, sub to R/L). The receiver is an older unit with A and B speaker outputs. I took the sub off of the A speaker outputs, and placed it on the B outputs. Then I moved the R/L speakers off the sub and to the A outputs. Now the sub seems to wake up more easily. Not sure why. I'm fairly novice with these things.

Hi, Jake, and welcome!

By connecting the speakers and sub the way that you described above, your front speakers will be getting all frequencies - so you will get overlap between them and the sub unless you are able to blend them together using the crossover dial on the sub. Does you receiver have a line level (RCA) subwoofer output?

Thanks Adam,
the receiver I'm using at the moment has the following: CD in Tape 1 in/out, Tape 2 in/out. The receiver does not have a dedicated subwoofer RCA out. I recently acquired a Pioneer with a high level sub out, but that's only one channel and I need to sort some things out with that receiver as well (will be another thread).
