New DVD player to match Denon AVR4306

I have recently purchased a Denon AVR-4306 to start upgrading my system which so far I am happy with.

I am now thinking of replacing my old Sony DVD-725p(uk model well rated when it came out 6-7 years ago) dvd player and Rega planet CD player of similar vintage for a multi purpose player such as the Denon DVD-1920,DVD2910 or even DVD-3910.
I currently have my CD player connected via the Digital coaxial connection to the 4306 and using its D/A converter and get a good sound from it. However none of my kit can play SACD or DVD-A so I am looking for something that will improve my picture quality and sound from ideally one box.

Question.
1 .At which point would I be better of using the D/A converter on the DVD player and going analogue to the 4306 be it audio or video?

2. If I did plunge for the DVD-3910 would I be wasting my money? HD-DVD & Blue-Ray are around the corner but I still have around 250 DVD’s that I want to play and my guess is that the first generation HD-DVD players may not necessarily play standard DVD’s as well as a player such as the DVD-3910

Any suggestions/opinions would be appreciated bearing in mind that Audio CD/SACD/DVD-A performance is important to me. I am not stuck on Denon kit but it would match visually and that would please the other half!

Thanks

Julian

I have the 2910 with a 3806. Great machine but you need more than just hdmi cables if you want to play SACD

2910 looks like a good match with the denon link, hdmi and sacd and dvd-a.

When I bought all new a few months ago, I was determined to buy quality and compatible gear and I did research here etc. So, I bought the AVR4306 and DVD3910 because of reviews and Denon Link. Does the 2910 have Denon Link 3rd version or whatever it's called? I believe in buying the best rated that you can afford, because before you know it, ten years have passed. I must confess that I have not hooked up the speakers and 4306 yet, but I have connected the sub to the TV and played DVD's and I am impressed. When I get around to making everything work I should have a grand HT.

The 2910 doesn't have Denon Link. It's only found on the 3910, 5910, 5900, 9000.

OK, thanks for the reply's.
I do like to try and buy the best i can afford so i would probably opt for the 3910. That being the case would i be beter using the D/A conveter in the 3910 for CD playback or use the AVR-4306 for all D/A conversion. From some of the specs ive seen the chip in the 3910 may better for CD D/A conversion.

Any comments?

My dad has a 3910 with a 3805 receiver, Denon link is nice because all audio formats are through a single cable. Picture quality on it is outstanding and sound is great too. I would highly recommend the 3910 to anyone interested, it is just pricy. They use the same (or at least very similar )D/A converters in the 3910 and 4306, so you shouldnt have any difference as far as sound quality, 3910 also has full bass management.

Thanks for everybodys advice.
I'll go for a demo soon and see how they perform. I might see if anywhere has the Pioneer DV-989AVi-S to compare to the Denon's. from what iv'e seen in the reviews the picture is great but the CD sound coud be better.

The new high definition dvd players will be out shortly. You might want to wait. Your new purchase may be obsolete all too soon.

im in the same dilemma as jannison
having bought a Yamaha RX-V4600 on the release month of last year giving me the incentive to buy a high quality DVD player and a HDCP Compliant Computer Monitor(HDCP 24" monitors, highly rare in the UK at the mo)
scouring the internet like a possesed being every day just for a snippet of information on the future products i wish to purchase.
My first initial DVD player on my wish list was a denon 3910 which in the uk even after a last month 400 dollar price drop still retails at 1,197.26 USD
so ill have to wait to see what's round the corner in this highly technology hush hush world we live in!
im hoping for a universal dvd player with the latest 1.3 hdmi spec if released this year
but one of my main worries, concerns the i-link port,im hoping that the i-link port is not rendered obsolete when the latest hdmi spec goes retail.
and if rumors are true that the BRD and HD DVD will not come in a combo player.
and what pictures and information on BRD and HD-DVD i have managed to ascertain none of the players yet seem to display the SACD logo or scream its support
i hope not but it looks like ill have to buy 3 dvd players

Pioneer BDP-HD1 Blu-Ray Disc Player

Expected UK Price 999.00 GBP (1,734.22 USD)

The DenonLink solution of the 3910 with a digital connection, bass managment, and time alignment is the way to go when paired with a DenonLink Receiver like the 4306 IMO for SACD and DVD Audio. Keep everything digital and forgo all the analog cables and maintain all the sound managment features in the digital realm.

I too have been waiting for prices to drop, a universal solution, or both and to no avail. Still keeping an eye out but HD video is also clouding the waters.

I had a 3910 for a while and I really liked it.. great pq and 2ch audio... However, I now have a Pioneer 79AVI and I love the thing.. just about the same pq and awesome audio for about half the price.. .. WAYYYY better than the 2910. check in to it and put the moneys saved into a blue ray fund...only prob is splittin the brands of your system.. although that can be kinda cool in its own way
