New BDI Console Just Delivered SMASHED!

You know sometimes you just which you could go to the company you order from, walk in, find the guy responsible for damaged goods, and just b*tch slap him silly.

After two weeks of waiting patiently, which isn't easy for me, my new BDI Avion was delivered. They were supposed to call me, but didn't, but my neighbor saw the truck and let them in the house... which now may not be a good thing. I get home tonight, open the carton, and find that the front corner is smashed, not just cracked, smashed like someone drop the box on the corner and drug it across the ground.

I called the company and sent them picks. I got some initial push back because I was supposed to inspect the console before the delivery guy left. The conversation got a bit strained but they will call me tomorrow with a plan.

I won't bash or praise anyone just yet, but I'll let you guys know how things turn out and if they are worth doing business with.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. I feel your pain as last fall I had a similiar problem with an Elite tv stand I ordered. My wife received it, and the box was wrapped multiple times over with bubble wrap. When I got home and we unboxed it we realized 2 drawers were literally ripped apart and another shelf cracked. A couple of days later I saw the packing slip left behind, and it the shipper noted that the box was "crushed and torn" when they picked it up. Nice!

Anyway, in the packing material was a note that for any damaged or missing pieces call the manufacturer, not the store it was ordered from. So I called them and they were kind enough to ship us two replacement drawers and a shelf for free, packed very nicely I might add. I guess my point is that the Elite stand was probably much cheaper than yours, but the manufacturer was good enough to address the problem for me (and I made sure they knew where I ordered from too). Of course the damage from your stand might not be as easy to fix as ours was, but if it can be fixed by shipping out a couple of replacement parts, it might be worthwhile checking with BDI and seeing what they might do for you. Good luck.

That really sucks. I have unsuccessfully dealt with damaged shipping issues over the last few months. I hope this gets resolved quickly.

Unfortunately, it's not a door that can be replaced. It's the actual top and part of the side panel. You'd have to take the whole thing apart. I'm wicked pissed right now and hate that I have to wait until tomorrow to get some kind of resolution. Either way, I'll be waiting... again...and have this big stupid busted up box sitting in the garage. Just one time... one time... I wish things would just go as planned.

Anyway... I'll post what happens tomorrow.

Start documenting everything now. Take pictures of the packaging and the damages to the contents. Be sure to write down the day, date, time, and name of anyone you talk to about this, with the company name and include a brief summary of what both you said. That includes shipper, seller, manufacturer, yourself, etc. As difficult as it is, always remain professional, no matter how offensive something they say may seem. This will get you further in the long run.

Be sure to refer to your written log whenever you speak with someone new and reference it, "When I spoke with John at Company X on Wednesday April 2nd, at 3pm, he said that..." Then write that down. This way if you get the run around, you can clearly point out every party involved and what they had to say.

I feel your frustration and want to tell you, you are not alone. So very few things seem to go right the first time anymore. Keep us posted.

Wicked pissed? Any chance you're from the Boston area? The only people I know that say that are from Boston. Just wondering.

No, I'm about as much Florida native as you can get. I've been here since I was four... or 33 years. One of my best friends is from Boston and you just pick stuff up like that. I was actually dropping F bombs but figured that'd get me banned for awhile.

I called this morning, talked briefly, and now am waiting for the call back from the person who can actually make decisions.

I wanted to give you guys a quick update and a great source for purchasing furntirue. All Modern Furniture http://www.allmodernfurniture.com/default.asp really took care of me and the issue. They gave me 3 options, refund my purchase 100%, give me a new one at a deep discount, or keep the damaged one and cut the price to less than half of the new cost.

I called BDI, and they let me know that they could send out a new top, so I decided to keep the damaged unit and just get it fixed up like new. I can't say enough about the good people at the company. I was a pissed at first, but they really came through. They are highly recommened and in fact we're just about to buy some additional furniture from them.
