Hello everyone,
From the traffic this forum as at such a late hour in the night/morning I am going to make a good guess that it is not some message board that goes unnoticed like many others I have stumbled upon. Just to say sorry ahead of time, this post is a bit long. Anyways, I do not know much about audio and learning little by little the past few days, not exactly the easiest thing to understand at first. Anyways, I have decided I need a system because I am about to go insane trying to watch movies while turning up my TV up and down during action and talking scenes, an just missing some real sound :) I have not decided to go with a HTIB just quite yet, but it is an option on the side for me. I originally have been looking at these speakers...

Speaker Set 1

http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-systems/onkyo-sks-ht740/4505-7868_7-32176982.html?tag=txt"

To keep in mind for speaker set 1, I believe 7.1 might be a bit to much for the room I have to work with, so that is probably at the bottom of the list, unless of course if the quality is the best on these and I can always just store two of them and use it as 5.1, right?

Speaker set 2

http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-systems/onkyo-sks-ht240/4505-7868_7-30910224.html?tag=coco"

Speaker Set 3

http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-systems/polk-audio-rm-6750/4505-7868_7-31127870.html?tag=sub"

Those are the speakers I have been currently looking at to purchase to go along with this reciever...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000H9C8KO/ref=ord_cart_shr/105-8824398-4314854?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance"

That is if I do not just purchase a HTIB, and if I did do that, I saw the Onkyo model HTS894 that I really liked other then the DVD player which I do not need.

I have been trying to get help from the Xbox 360 forums, and PS3 forums for all this and that has turned into a joke, so this is why I've stumbled into these forums in hope that I can get some real help from people who know what they are talking about... Although for the price I was willing to pay, which was around 1300 because I was going to get a Bose system (dont laugh, I've already been convinced to stay away from Bose) anyways, someone reccomended the Klipsch RB-10 home theater speakers which retail a bit above 1k which I could be swayed to buy just because I am crazy enough to dump that money due to me being all about quality. I do have to say, I will be in an apartment, and I know I wont be able to really crank on anything I purchase but I rather go big and quality now then go small and low quality just to be annoyed and have to shop later for a major purchase..

Sorry if this was to long, I'm sure only half of you made it through all this... So please share any opinions or suggestions any of you have!

I believe the best option for speakers at your budget is Onix.

The large towers are $449.00 a pair.
http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=speakers&product=105.1
The small towers are $319.00 a pair.
http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=speakers&product=94.1
The center is $139.00.
http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=speakers&product=91.1
The bookshelves are $219.00 a pair.
http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=speakers&product=82.1
The sub is $199.00.
http://www.av123.com/products_category_brand.php?section=subwoofers&brand=57

There is a wait on some of the speakers, but if you built a system with the large towers as the mains, bookshelves as the surrounds, a center, and a x-sub, the total would be $1006.00. Any other combination would be less, other than having large surrounds.

As far as a receiver, it depends on what connection options are needed to to find the deal of the day.

Exactly where is the prime listening position with that interesting speaker arrangement Zumbo?;)

I'll second Zumbo's suggestion. It's hard to beat that price point.

The AV123 that Zumbo listed would be awesome. I would also take a look at the SVS package deal. Add a mid level AVR from Yamaha, Onk, Denon for 300 buck and you'll be done.

Ha, guess I could only expect something brand new from people who know what they are talking about. I really like the look of that SVSSound SBS-01 system, the 5.1 for 1000. I think I'll bookmark those and keep my eye on them. What are some stores that are authorized to deal them? I'd like to take a listen, even though I'm sure there an awesome. What about that Onkyo reciever I had my eyes on? It seems to have everything I need... Thanks for the input guys :)

If you're willing to go with white or silver, the SVS package is on sale for $800.

I don't think that they have any dealers. SVS is an internet-direct company, but they have a 45-day money back guarantee. They'll refund the purchase price, but you do have to pay for all shipping. Some internet-direct companies will even pay for shipping if you return items, such as AV123 (for their bookshelf speakers) and Aperion Audio (for everything that they sell).

Hm, alrighty then. Well then even though they are internet based, I am assuming they are pretty nice speakers? I just read everything they said about that certain system and I could see myself ordering them. As for the sale on the color...I need black, just matches everything I own. So that $999 5.1 system would most likely make me happy? I'm sure they sound better then anything else I've heard...

Difficult to beat that for 1000 bucks.

Aperion Audio

Aperion Audio also has 5.1 systems in beautiful piano black (really shiny!) starting at $800.00 to your front door.

Aperion will not only give you 30 days to try out their speakers, but if you don't like them, they pay shipping both ways. They also have a one year Trade in /Trade up program. Buy say the $800.00 system above, and up to a year later, send it back, and they give you your full $800.00 towards a bigger system. And Aperion uses 1" High Density Fiberboard, not 1/2" or 3/4" MDF like many companies. Check that out.

That means you can spend more on your receiver now with the features you want. Look at the Onkyo 605.

I have the 632 LR bookshelves that I'm trading in for the 633 Towers. All in that killer piano black finish!

Those Aperion speakers look real nice. I have never heard them so I can't comment on them.

My question would be how does the sub compare to the SVS sub?

If anything he can still get the Aperion 422 system with no sub and pick up a HSU STF-2 or VTF-1 and still be under $1000. And if he wants something better in the fronts for some music he can upgrade the 422 to 532 bookshelves for a little bit over $1000.

That would be the ticket to ride there. In the package above, the sub is an 8", which although small, they work.

Anyway you slice it, Aperion still lets you trade up. It's a great way to build brand loyalty. And I KNOW how good their speakers are. I love my 632 bookshelves, but can't resist the 633 Towers :D

Buyer beware. The Onix system uses 6.5" drivers. I don't care how good any company may be, a 4" driver can't touch a 6.5". No how. No way. And while a SV sub, and a HSU sub may be better than the X-sub, it all depends on how much you want to spend. Both cost more than the x-sub.

IMO, there is no way the small drivers in the SV & Aperion system can compare to the Onix.

"Buyer Beware"

I 1000% disagree with Zumbo.

It has been proven that a small driver can out perform a large driver any day of the week including Saturday and Sunday. No How, No Way can any large driver hang with these. :D

OOPS! I forgot about paper drivers. Paper adds a whole new level of sophistication, not to mention being able to change the direction of the drivers.
