Alright, I ran into a bit more money so I'm looking at separate pre-pro's and amps. Ive pretty much decided on an outlaw 990, or the Rotel RSP-1068 pre-pros, but I am having trouble with the amp part. Im tossed up between two 200w monoblocks or a 2x200w stereo amp driving my front speakers and a 5x125w amp driving my surrounds, monoblocks the whole way around or a 7ch power amp. For monoblocks I was looking at Outlaw 2200's, and Rotel RB1080 STEREO AMP. I was also looking at the Rotel RBM-1075 for the 5 chan amp

I need information on the following subjects:

List of affordable 5x125w amps

Should I go with m-blocks the whole way around, 2mblocks and a 5chan amp or a 7chan amp?

Any input would be greatly appreciated :)

hi rocky,im pretty much sold on running monoblocks as much as possible(as funds allow)

i built a rig for one of my sons using 5 marantz ma6100 monoblocks, what a sweet amp the ma 6100's are,one of the great things about them is that they can be daisy chained for more power if future upgrades require more wattage.

have a great evening.

Depends on your speqkers - I tried the Outlaw M2200s on my LSi15s and
LSiC and they did not cut it at close to reference level listening. I now
have them driving my surrounds and went with a 600 watt per channel
into 4 ohm 3 channel AMP for my LCRs - BIG difference at close to
reference level and above - I am convinced it even sounds better at lower
listening levels...

I would personally look around on AudiogoN (at the classifieds, not the auctions or new items being sold). You can pick up some really nice amps there for a good price. Look for B&K, ATI, Anthem, Rotel, Parasound, NAD, and Adcom.

Really depends on your speakers and what your music preferences are ( 2ch. or 5ch., sacd, dvda) If you are going to use bookshelf speakers for the surrounds i would think that the monoblocks all around would be a waste of money. rb1080 is a nice amp for the money and will drive most any speaker on the market and the 1075 is great for HT but not as good as the 1080 for 2 ch.. You might check out the the new 1070 class d amp as well it may serve the purpose of both amps above !

Just go buy the new Adcom receiver. It is a monster, and a separates killer. If you don't like that, then get a Yamaha 2600, and a few of those Marantz monoblocks. They are pretty cheap and seem to deliver top-notch performance.

I think you can do better money/quality wise with separate mblocks, or even two channel amps compared to 5 and 7 channel amps. The best multi channel surround amps cost as much as used cars.

Don't rule out older vintage stuff on ebay like Sansui, Yamaha, Pioneer, Marantz, etc... Some of those are built like a tank, weighing up to 100lbs. Lots of great inexpensive stuff out there from the 70's.

since you already decided on the outlaw 990, why not a matching outlaw amp? the new 7500 and 7700 series are excellent amps. they are made by ATI and now include full balanced amps all channels. I think that the multichannel amp is a better design than their monoblocks. (hi bias class A/B vs. ClassG).

*** Plus, the 7500 / 7700 amps are made here in USA. The monoblocks are taiwan ( in case you wanted to help the national trade deficit :)

A good separate amp is worth the bucks, more so than the latest state of the art prepro.

A great amp, Krell for instance, is still a great amp next year, next decade.
today's state of the art preamp is obsolete in a couple years. So, i would spend your budget on the amp, and save on the prepro.
