....increasing the pool of watts up to 500 like you have, brings amazing results at reference levels, RollinRocker, you bet....but I've got to the point I seek "live presence" as my first priority....it all boils down to how high do you have to crank it before the audio achieves an acceptable degree of live presence, imo....the more "live" it sounds at moderate levels, the more you can leave it there.....

nice ... so how big a difference was it between the 1095 and 1092?

mule,

I've found, as i'm sure most of you have, that reference level is cd or dvd dependent. You can crank a cd until your ears bleed, but thats not enjoyable to me, even when i've downed a few ice cold Rocks. There's that magic level where everything just sounds right, like you know it SHOULD sound. Lower the volume a little, the magics gone! Raise it a little, same thing. My volume level could be -12 for the magic to hit with holly cole, -18 with green day, -30 with leo kottke, -22 with steely dan. Its not just about how loud it can play, it's about finding that magic!

mike c,

1092 is a little smoother on top end, not a huge diff. Bigger diff is in upper bass, lower midrange. Even tho def techs are powered towers, new amp is noticebly better with drums and bass guitar lines. Green day- "american idiot", joe jackson-"big world", dada-"puzzle", dire straits-"brothers in arms", bob dylan-"infidels", lyle lovett-"joshua judges ruth", gunbunnies-"paw paw patch" all GREAT examples of breathtaking drums and bass when done right.

After reading again my first post on this thread i regret using the phrase "absolute stunner". I was caught up in the excitement of adding this amp to my system. Don't get me wrong, i love the amp (and the imaginary changes its made in what i hear) but upon review the "absolute stunner" bit sounds like ad copy. Sorry about that.

.....RollinRocker, so sorry to have missed this one....I absolutely agree sweet spots vary with the source....and, plenteous wattage negates compression at sweet spot levels....what does that mean?....shoot, I don't know, but I thought it sounded pretty good......

.....RollinRocker, nothing wrong with your report....if the amp stunned you, it stunned you....
