I got it Bob - thanks for your help
No sweat, my pleasure to help. :)

If your only source to the tv is a dvd player, there is no need to route the signal through the avr at this time.
True, but we already discuss that, and right now, it is simple and effective.
Plus, when Mike will eventually add other sources (Cable Box TV, Blu-ray player, etc.), life will be easier for him, as he would already be set to simply add those other future sources, by simply plugging them to the back of his receiver. So, he's already set for the "switching" feature of his receiver. :)

* Mike already mentioned the video "switching" capability of the receiver; so you can easily deduct from it, that he will eventually use that nice feature capability of his receiver. ;)

simpler it is not,(when no switching is happening) and when he gets another display, he will upgrade his dvd connections, i was only saving him the trouble of using 2 svids when 1 will do;)

I totally agree with you bandphan, and I understood exactly what you were saying, and my gut feeling is that Mike also knows what we are saying. :)
(And "when he gets another display", from what I understood, Mike is in no big rush right now.)

* Mike, you got this? You can use only one S-Video cable directly from your DVD player to your TV, for now, to make life even simpler. ;)
So at the end, you do have two options. :)

maybe?

i do need more help.

If I conect the DVD player directly to the TV - using the S-video connection -- is this supplying the video only?
The DVD player and the AVR will also be connected to supply the sound to the speakers? is that right?
