I am looking to buy a new 42'' LCD TV or Monitor. I want to decide should I buy the 1080p Westinghouse or Samsung 720p/1080i ? (Ignore the price difference.)
Does normal SDTV signal look worse on 1080p TV than a 720p TV ?
Which one is better and why ?

Thanks a lot..

I have the Westinghouse and am always reminded why I bought it when I'm watching HD Cable or a DVD. The picture is incredible! For example, watching the NBA Finals on ABC-HD was an awesome experience. The picture so crisp and 3D imaging just as if you were sitting in the front row. SD picture is good, so I really have no complaints. I have a small Samsung LT-P266W LCD in my bedroom which has very good resolution. I like both products, but the Samsung doesn't compare with the Westinghouse picture wise. The Samsung is not the newest model out though either.

I loved the HDTV picture on the 40" JVC 1080p LCD RPTV, but SDTV signals looked absolutely horrid and, to me, unwatchable; I saw all kinds of highly visible noise and pixellation in the image. Instead, I bought a 42" Toshiba (720p) plasma, which looks really good with 720p and 1080i material, and SDTV is watchable.

Do you plan on buying a HD or Blue Ray DVD player? If so then you would want 1080p.

1080P Westinghouse no doubt about it. 1080P is the future for tv programming, and DVD. It's better to be prepared, rather than wishing you had been.

go with the samsung they picture quality on the westinghouse is good but not as good as the samsungs. People may argue, but go a store a check it out for youself, you will notice the difference. If you really want 1080p then get this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7843854&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat33900050026&id=1142298457279
sure there is quite a price difference but your not paying for samsungs name they make badass tvs probly one of the best out there, but hey go check it out for youself go to best buy and see if you really think its worth the extra money to you

and sd signals tends to look decent on lcds and plasmas.
