New 2600 died after 10 days of use...!

Hi All -

I bought a new, in box RX-V2600 before the new year and finally got to unpacking it and setting it up last week. Today, I tried to turn it on and it clicked and turned-off, but the display didn't say "protection", so I repeated the process and it did it again. The third time I did this, nothing happened, except for the click. I'm also passing component video signals from the Yammy to my DLP, while I started troubleshooting this problem, I switched the DLP to the internal HD tuner and tried powering-up the receiver again, but this time it started the greying-out the TV screen, even though I was using the tuner, not the component video inputs. Unplugging the component video from the TV corrected this, but now I have a brand-new, seemingly dead receiver.

Has anyone experienced this? I don't want to take it to the Yamaha Service center and wait a few weeks to diagnose and get back to me about how long the repair will take. I'm guessing that the unit has a bad power supply, since the outlet on the 2600 didn't switch on or off when I went into standby or pressed the master power button. The unit is plugged into a good surge protector and carefully wired with banana clips on the speakers (to circumvent shorts from accidental speaker wire contact), so I'm baffled as to why my 2600 is behaving this way.

I'm kinda disappointed with this product; this is my 4th Yamaha receiver/integrated amp and the only one that has had a problem.

Take it back, since it's that new, and get a new one. There's no way I'd pay that much for a shop repaired receiver.
I had that happen with a tv once. The salesman at the store told me who did their repairs. I said, "No way! I'm not buying a repaired tv. I bought a new tv! Get me the manager!" He got the manager. When he realized it was less than a month old, he told the salesman to get me a new one...........

Don't let them bully you into repairing a receiver you haven't even listened to yet. Get in somebody's face. :)
Good luck!

Sounds like you got 1 in a million. Be absolutely sure when you connect the new that there are no shorts in the wiring, and double check all connections. If the reciever has a voltage selector be sure that it is set to the correct voltage. to find the voltage use a voltmeter to determine what the average ac input is. I don't know if that receiver has selectable voltage in the 120 110 ranges, be sure to check.

They make good stuff but this stuff does happen on occasion.

Every manufacturer sends out a lemon once in a while. You just drew the shortstraw this time.

I hope you still have the receipt, all the packing, and purchased it from a reputable and/or authorized Yamaha dealer. Most dealers will exchange a DOA piece if notified within a certain period of time.

Nope, brand new, in box. I bought it at the Great Indoors; they're an authorized dealer. It was the last one, so I got in for $775; gray market price for a brand-new factory warranted unit. :(

Yep, I'm anal about keeping the packing materials and buying from authorized dealers. I got this on clearance, so it was the last new one in box...They'll exchange it, but I can't afford a 2700 right now...

That's what I thinking as well. All connections are correct as is voltage. I guess I'm a little pissed because I essential paid to have my own unit refurbished. I guess this is still a better deal than a gray market 2700

How much will it cost to exchange it for a 2700?

I have never had a bad Yamaha product.
Since the middle 70's
I have had other DOA's (1)from other manufacturer though
Anything is possible too.
But you never know everywhere it was before you got it.

Since the 2600 is no longer available, I would suppose they will just swap it out for a 2700. That's what happened to a friend of mine. He bought a demo unit from a local shop and it ended up having a problem. Since it was the old model, they gave him a brand new one (no b-stock because they obviously had just come out).

When one channel of my Marantz PM7000 died (right before the end of the 3yr warranty!), they allowed me to exchange it for the new PM7200 plus the difference between the two, so I'd talk to them and see if they will cut you a deal.
