Hello all,

Does anyone have any info on the upcoming HDMI 1.3 1080P LCD that is suppose to be coming out within the next few months. Is it suppose to be better that HDMI 1.1/1.2? Do I need it for the PS3? Ever heard of the Planar LCD?

Thanks

You can find a FAQ list at http://www.hdmi.org/resourcecenter/hdmi_1_3_faq.asp. Although you may come away with more questions than answers. PS3 has HDMI 1.3 already. I think a lot of manufacturers will be coming out with devices(TVs, amps, etc.) that support this latest spec later in the year, though if you call them directly, the people you talk to can't usually give you specific details. I called Marantz, and someone told me "end of the year"; I called Sharp and no one knew.

HDMI 1.3 just gives you support for more audio and video formats. On the audio side I believe it allows for codecs like DTSHD MA and on the video side, it includes support for deep color. If your player does your audio decoding ( PS3 can do this ), you don't need 1.3 to get lossless audio on your receiver if it processes audio over HDMI. You don't need 1.3 on your tv/projector if you don't care about deep color which is an unknown at this point anyway (no content currently using it). It would be smart to buy any new equipment with 1.3 support to help prolong your investment but it's hardly a requirement at the moment depending on your setup and whether you care about lossless audio or not.

If I am not mistaken the new Epson Powerlite Pro Cinema 1080 projector is HDMI 1.3 compatible.
