Netflix not passing through 5.1

For any Canadians out there, I'm with Bell Fibe and have a 4K PVR. I currently have the PVR configured for 5.1 out and I get 5.1 out from it. However, when I use Netflix, I only get stereo out despite choosing 5.1 in the audio selection. Why? Could it be that the PVR is non supported device? I'm going to launch Netflilx from my Samsung display to see if I can get 5.1 from it.

Seriously, I have no life.
Sorry, I missed your post.

Netflix stream 2 channel natively. It also streams Dolby Digital Plus which can only be received via a defined Netflix app. I use the Netflix app for Windows 10 which gives really good fidelity. I have it loaded on HTPC.

Devices like ROKU also have the app embedded I understand. I certainly do not have a complete list in my head of which devices support Netflix Dolby Digital Plus streaming.

In view if your experience I would suspect your PVR does not have the Netflix app for 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus.

I personally think that in this age I believe are watching streamed material more than anything else, a good HTPC running Windows 10 is the high road. If you don't want a large profile box, then a neat little Intel NUC or similar microcomputer running Windows 10 will do the trick for you.

This is my little Intel NUC at our Eagan residence. I put my i6 phone in front of it to show its small profile. It is a great little unit. That unit uses the Intel i5 integrated chip.

I could be wrong, but I get the impression that 3db is streaming Netflix via his cable box, perhaps as part of a cable bundle. If so it's very possible that the client is limited to stereo.

I do agree that Streaming, whether it's via a HTPC, streaming appliances such as Roku or Fire TV, or an Android device such as a ShieldTV, or even some of the better supported clients bundled within modern TVs, are the future. The exception are places with speeds and/or caps too low to support streaming. Since I'm not in Canada I have no clue how good his speeds are or how low his caps are.

What pvr is it exactly? Is it the pvr itself for audio output you have set for 5.1 output, or the app? Did you go into the audio settings of the Netflix app and see what audio choices you have there? The audio choices depend on which Netflix app/device implementation your gear has....

Fellow Canadian, have 5.1 on my TV setup. What I do is run everything to my Denon receiver via HDMI, then an optical cable from the Denon to the Samsung TV. Choose optical in settings accordingly. Then I stream from the Samsung TV via Netflix app. Was just watching The Patriot in 4kUHD and hot damn, the clarity of the picture and the quality of sound was great. I ducked a few times from musket fire. ;)

Give that a try, maybe it doesn't know how to handle the PVR with the current configuration.
