Rumors and rumors, but a developing story might be very interesting indeed, if it pans out. It seems that in late August Netflix filed official paperwork which includes set-top boxes sporting the Netflix logo, this has fueled the rumor mills as to intent by Netflix. Speculation has it that they're ready to roll out at TV-ready receiver, possibly by Q1. The filing discovered by Trademork.com, was performed in late August after Netflix had reportedly tested several models under a super-secret focus group, what makes the filing interesting are the words: "receipt, download, playing, viewing, and rental of audio and video programming through the use of internet connections." Last summer the company had laid down their long-term road plan which included a provision for a set-top box for movie downloads. It is rumored that Netflix will unveil two types of boxes, one with component and HDMI, retailing for $100.00, the other model would sport composite and S-Video and retail for around $50.00. As I said, as of right now this is mostly speculative, but the filling is on record and Netflix has shown intent. Keep posted.
