Just got this DVD & CD set at Costco ($17). If you're a Neil Young fan, get this. It's in 24/96 Hi-Res stereo and sounds just great. This is just Neil, all by himself, playing to a Canadian crowd. This guy has always been the most unpretentious, un-self conscious artist around.
I've been to Canada and thought it was beautiful, but always wondered why, when they get some money, do the Canadians move to California?;)

It's just too GD cold up there. I've always liked the way Young has always been so up front about who he is. Even when he has been in his somewhat unattractive periods (like his Reagan period), you never think that he is crafting an image. His albums are like personal correspondence from somebody you have known for a long time.

I was never a HUGE Neil fan. I owned his best of compilation on redbook. The only place around me that still carries high res formats is Fry's electronics. I always check the DVD-A's and Sacd's first thing when I go in there. Neil has a boatload of his stuff released on HighRez. I just listened to Harvest last night. Really top notch. I like Neil more the older I get!

Neil-he hasn't sold out after all these years. And he took the time to get his music in the best sound format he could find. Ya gotta love him.

Yeah, the Massey Hall recording may be just one of Neil's all time best. I love a lot of his stuff, I am not a great fun of live recordings, but this is one I really enjoy.

I will even go further to say this is one of the best live recordings I have owned. It is a fantastic CD. I thought it was very interesting that during the opening of about half the songs there was no applause because this was the first time these people were hearing these songs. You can tell that A Man Needs A Maid was still a work in progress as evidenced by the different lyrics than is on Harvest and that a portion of the song Heart of Gold is added at the end. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is even slightly interested in Neil Young.
