Needs CHEAP receiver for 2.1 PC setup

Ok guys...just pulled the trigger on a pair of these and I need a sub and amp to drive them.

Any suggestions?

"Cheap" is a relative word.

I can't think of any "cheap" stereo receivers with a subwoofer output. The least expensive one I can think of, and it doesn't have a subwoofer output, is a Sherwood 4105, or something like that. It goes for around $100 or less.

As for subwoofers, just make sure that whatever one you get has a pair of speaker-level inputs, and hopefully a pair of speaker level outputs.

Why don't you just get a cheap intergrated amp and run your mains like a satelite set-up. Speakers in speakers out through your sub.

That might be an even better idea.

So...suggestions on a cheap ($200 for sub and amp) combination of a small sub and amp? If I could find a used HSU STF1 that would be sweet!

Powered subs don't provide power to the satellite speakers, dude, just to the subwoofer. For that you need an amp or a receiver.

Yes I know....sorry if my post was confusing....amp+subwoofer as I have not yet purchased either.

speakers from your main amp to speakers in on sub, connect satelites to speakers out on sub and it works. Satelites will be powered by main amp. If using sub out on pre-amp its not going to work because you have no power, but this way it works.

Looks like a nice little sub, maybe you can get it for $110.-- that'll leave you around $100.-- for an amp and you'll be good. That'll be a nice little system.

As for amps/receivers, amonfg the least expensive is a sherwood 4105, or something like that. It sells fr $100 or less. It doesn't have a subwoofer output, but if the sub has speaker level inputs and outputs, you'll be fine.

Another option is a working vintage stereo receiver (30+ years or so) from a known name brand. These can he had from craigslist, epay, garage sales, swap meets, or wherever and can generally be had pretty much for a song.

Just to be clear the Sherwood is THE BEST option in the sub $100 range? This looks like an excellent option but maybe something retro looking? I don't need ANY bells and whistles as this is strictly a single input 2.1 system.

Alright....ordered on of these...and 50 feet of this....and put a bid in for the sub....coming together nicely.....

I will just have to make a bracket for my 28" LCD on my desktop to suspend the speakers on each side of the monitor perfectly....I will have to post pics when I get it all together.

I have no idea what that thing on Audiogon is so I can't really offer any advice here. But, the specs don't really impress me too much: 10 watts @ 10% distortion impresses me not in the least.

Short of finding a vintage integrated amp or receiver for < $100, that sherwood might be the only option in that price range. Personally, unless you just gotta have it now, I'd check out your local craigslist, garage sales, pawn shops or whatever else sells used stuff for a vintage STEREO receiver or integrated amp.

The only reason I recommend that Sherwood is that three friends of mine have 'em, on my recommendation, and they do a very, very good job for the price.
