I just got a LG 79UB98 (love it), added to that a Sony BDP S7200 Bluray, 3D, 4K player, the problem is, that my Onkyo TXNR1007 will not, and can not, pass the 3d and 4K. So trying to outsmart it, I got a Monoprice 11050 1x4 HDMI splitter that will handle the 3D and 4K, thinking I could send the 3D right to the TV and the audio to the Onkyo, well no. Even using a non High Speed HDMI cable to it. NO... So short of the $1699 option of replacing the Onkyo, are my options limited to a 3D Bluray player with 2 HDMI outs, which is what I am starting to look into. Any thoughts or ideas, and suggestions for such a player? Thanks.

You can down mix to coax.
You lose the lossless audio but, it'll be a no cost solution.

IMO, don't upgrade until HDCP 2.2 becomes common in receivers.
