HAVE A VERY ENTRY LEVEL /OFF OF THE SHELF OLDER HT SYSTEM..(PIONEER)
IT IS SET UP IN QUIT POSSIBLY THE WORST ROOM/CONDITIONS KNOWN TO MAN.
MY LIVING ROOM IS A SEA OF TILE AND LEATHER WITH NOT SO MUCH
AS A RUG, PILLOW OR EVEN CURTAIN IN SIGHT. NOT SURE OF THE TERMINAOLY AROUND HERE BUT I THINK THAT THIS WOULD QUILIFY AS "BRIGHT" TO YOU GUYS ?
ANYHOW THE SUBWOOFER HAS LET GO.
TRYING TO SOAK UP ALL OF THE INFO I CAN FROM THIS PLACE AND HOPEFULLY
BUILD A WHOLE NEW SYSTEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE. BUT IN THE MEAN TIME I WAS LOOKING INTO A PAIR OF INEXPENSIVE REPLACEMENTS UNTILL I GET THE SCHOOLING AND SCRATCH NECESSARY TO TAKE THE PLUNGE.

WHAT CAN BE SAID ABOUT THESE FOR MY APLICATION

While I like JBL speakers in general and actually still have mine, I do not care for JBL subs. If it were the mains and center from that series, I'd say it represents very good value for the money.

Other than an extrremely low price, that JBL sub is not likely to be very good. It will get the job done but much better can be had if you are willing to triple the budget to around $300-ish. Still, for less than $100 you really can't go wrong and I would consider it at least as a stop-gap solution until funds permit and you want to really upgrade.

SO YOU ARE SAYING THAT "1" $300 DRIVER WILL SERVE MY PURPOSE BETTER THAN THESE "2"?
MY THOUGHT WAS LOW QUALITY IN QUANTITY AT A LOWER LEVEL VS.
SMALL AMOUNT OF QUANTITY IN A QUALITY PIECE NOT UP TO THE TASK OF MY SITIUSTIONS.

Like I said, I like JBL for speakers in general but JBL subs are a compromise.

They don't go particularly low in the frequency response range and can be kind of boomy but hell for $100 you can't really go wrong. If you were considering the EP-350 (or whatever I had), I'd say look elsewhere because they cost $300-400 and much better can be had for that price range.

Honestly, for $100 I'd buy it and not look back until such time as I wanted to upgrade. You WILL notice a difference with a sub vs no sub but increasing the budget does often yield better results (to a point).

The only thing I would do is put the sub on it's back and put the football in the hole. Use it as a football kicking tee.

Dude, you kill me. :)

JBL subs are not total junk, it's just that I feel you can do better if it is possible to expand the budget a tad. For main, center, and surrrounds JBL has a good bang for the buck offering but subs, not so much.

Yes, I know he is talking about budget subs, but this is not to say that ALL JBL subs are not up to par.
Heck, 50~70% of theaters use the Cinema (Pro) subs from JBL.
(however these are in a completely different league)
At 220 pounds, it better kickbutt.:p http://www.jblpro.com/pages/cinema/lfsub.htm

Anyhow, back on topic.
Yeah those Dayton do look to be good bang for buck.
I have had a few JBL subs, and they were quite musical and were well worth the price.

If you are spending for 2 budget subs, roughly 270.00 shipped
Why don't you just put that ~270 for a little better sub, like the BIC H100, or one of the STF HSU subs.
And then save up for a second one of those later?

But I will point out, as most people have already hinted at.
That you do get what you pay for, (usually) when it comes to subs.

That being said, I recall the JBL E250 was well worth the money, and was musical.
The H100 was not as musical, but was very good for Home Theater.

Then again, it has been a long time since I have heard them.

I to, am thinking of upgrading my sub, and will be selling my current one.
But sorry, it would be a little more than 270.
But if you are remotely interested, then by all means PM me. It is a HSU VTF3 MK2 (Piano Black).

An HSU VTF-3 Mk2 is a nice sub. The piano black was a beautiful finish that's very hard to come by. It would be a nice sub if Gasman was willing to deal.

If you're dead set on spending less than $300 then the Parts DIY sub might fit the bill. A 15" driver for under $300:
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=300-770

The other 12" sub is also a nice entry level sub. They will both surely do better than the other lesser 10" subs.

Just remember

"A good deal is a state of mind"

Just because you can get a good discount on something doesn't make it a "Good Deal".

If Tiger Woods can get a Taylor Made driver for half price, but can't hit the ball in the fairway. Was that a "Good Deal"?
