Hello,

I am new to the forum. I wanted to get some of your thoughts/recommendations for my Home Theater. I have a 70" Sony 3D LED TV that is wall mounted above my fireplace in my Family Room. The room is about 13x18.

I watch a lot of movies, listen to a lot of music and play Xbox 360. If I had to give a % breakdown, it will be as follows:

-Movies: 25%
-Music (Audio & Video via Youtube): 25%
-Games: 25%
-TV (Sports, Shows, etc.): 25%

Please see below visual depiction of my Family Room. I don't think I need more than a 5.1 System but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

To make my life easier with purchase and warranty, I'd like to go with a HTIB System but if I'll get more 'bang' for my buck by buying individual components, I am OK with that as well.

One of the options I saw at my local Costco was the Bose Acoustimass 6 Home Theater System Bundle with Yamaha Receiver. I am not sure if this is even worth considering but the price point seemed attractive enough to consider it.

Please let me know what your thoughts are. My budget is about $1500. I really don't have room for floor standing front speakers, unfortunately.

Again, I'd like to see if I can get a great HTIB System but open to buying individual components as well.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Besides your TV and Xbox 360 what other components would you be requiring for your system, i.e. Bluray player, MD, LD, etc? This may help determine input counts for a recommended AVR. Do you require multi-room/multisource/second zone?

I'd steer clear of actual HTIB, but would look more toward "bundled" equipment/speaker sets. Bose, you will find not just from my opinion but others as well, is WAY overpriced and not even in my top 25 of speaker manufacturers for sound quality, imaging, dynamics ,etc. $1500 can have you an ok set up with an AVR, BD (if you choose not to use your Xbox as BD), a nice sub and mains and possibly a center channel...thus possibly needing extension in your budget or planning for the future for purchase of surround speakers. With that said, check out accessories4less for great refurbished units.

To address your room layout, it is not ideal to have your couch against the back wall nor to have your TV up high above a FP, but if this is how the room must stay for WAF, then so be it.

At quick glance, I'd suggest initially using your Xbox as BD and:
For AVR Yamaha's RX-V575 @ $299.99
YAMAHA RX-V575 7.2 Channel Network AV Receiver with Airplay | Accessories4less

For speakers 5.1, KEF KHT3005SE :
KEF KHT3005SE 5.1 Speaker Package w/ HTB2 Wireless Subwoofer | Accessories4less

These get you a great sounding system for your budget. Are there many other combinations and manufacturers out there to get different results? You bet...these are just my initial for input. Another route could be to focus on a 2.1 system for now until your budget can expand to add a matching center and surrounds, at a later time, thus getting you a higher quality sub and mains. If the RX-V575 doesn't meet your needs and stepping up to a RX-V675 may be needed for those additional benefits then your budget would already be moving upward.

I will go against the grain just this once, if the HTIB is the way you truly insist on going I like this set-up-The Onkyo HT-S9400THX is a 7.1 channel home theater-in-a-box that would give you the simplicity of plug and play, I have a very close friend that insisted this was what he wanted and it is really not "so" bad.

Take a look and decide for your self -Onkyo HT-S9400THX Home Theater System | bad robot Store

I'll tell ya what , if I were brand new to HT and wanted the most bang for the buck I would love this set up as a first time HT.

My other option is

3 each Boston Flat Panel L/C/R for the front channels
BOSTON ACOUSTICS P442 LCR (Left,Right,Center) Speaker Black Each NEW | Accessories4less

2 each Focal Sib for surrounds
FOCAL Sib 5" 2-Way Satellite Loudspeakers Pair Gloss Black | Accessories4less

HSU STF-2 Subwoofer
http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html

Now if you want to buy everything from AC4L (HSU sub will be a little better)
Then Mordaunt Short Aviano 7 subwoofer - it can still hit 92+ db at 25 hz

With the Yamaha receiver linked above

Thanks everyone for your help! It looks like HTIB is not a good option so I'll start looking at the receiver and speaker options you have provided.

Thanks again!
