Hi Folks,
I have a few questions that I hope you can assist me with.
I am in the process of re-building my home theatre system. I say rebuild as I had a Sony STR-DE845 with a JBL (5.1) HTIB speaker setup. I had this system for about 9 years.

I bought a pair of PSB Image T6’s from about 6 years ago for my stereo and they sound great. Bear in mind that these are my initial reference point.

Now, I would like to get a set of 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 speakers for my home theatre setup. I just bought a Yamaha HTR-6295 receiver that will support 7.1 if need be.

I am considering Axiom or PSB at the moment. I had looked at Paradigm, Klipsch, Polk but based on reviews am leaning towards the Axioms. I had tried to find PSB’s in and around Montreal but have had little luck. When I read that Axiom was online and in Canada it peaked my interest.

My initial thought was to get the Axiom’s Epic 60 – 500. I think that I may want the towers for stereo audio and the rest for movies.

Usage – TV (70%), movies (20%), music (10%)

Questions
1 – Should I get the 7.1 setup even though most movies are encoded in 5.1?
2 – What do you guys think about Axiom as a choice based on the fact that I have PSB at the moment?

I am somewhat new to this so try to keep it simple if at all possible.

Thank You!

70% TV, well, who really cares about audio there.

20% movies, get a bluray player, and just rent them. Otherwise, with a DVD you only get roughly 30K pixels, whereas with BD you get a tad more than 2 million. That's not to mention the lossless codecs. Ok, I mentioned them, can your receiver handle them?

Well, with BDs, there are close to 200 titles with 7.1. I forgot how many 6.1 titles there are on DVD (always as DTS-ES, AFAIK).

Oh ok, I was about to say that I fear you might** be making more of a lateral move than a big upgrade, but I see that you only have a stereo pair of PSBs.

Send a PM to 3db as he's our representative PSB fanboi who also happens to reside in CA. He should be able to direct you.

Hi Jostenmeat

I forgot to add that I do have a BD player. I will not be buying or renting DVD's any longer, only BluRay.

I live up in Canada and do not want to have to deal with the international, Provincial, State, Federal (US and CDN) taxes. So a Canadian PSB delaer would be preferred. I know that taxes must be paid, but if I order from the US I may get charged 3 taxes, as well as other "fees".

Cheers.

I'm not sure if they sell in Canada, but Saturday Audio Exchange handles PSB and can be ordered online. They are out of Chicago. I've done business with them and was very satisfied. They sell a lot of discontinued equipment along with current lines. That being said, PSB is a Canadian company. You shouldn't have a problem finding them. It certainly would save you some bucks since you already have a start with them.

Go to this link, type your postal code and the distance your willing to travel and you should find some dealers.

PSB is located in Pickering which is not too deep in TO.

PSB Speakers International · 633 Granite Court · Pickering, Ontario L1W 3K1 · Canada

Other speakers to consider besides Axiom is Totem. Totem is based in Quebec somewhere as well.

With subs, I would go to Outlaw, HSU, or SVS.
