I wanted to know if there was anything better out there better or equivalent to Bose Cube speakers. I was looking at the Acousticmass 10 & it's like $800 bucks can anyone suggest something cheaper with the same sound quality? I really don't want big speakers that is why I was looking at the bose Cube's.

Thank you

Just about anything.

Athena, Polk, JBL, HSU Ventriloquist, Klipsch, Boston Acoustics, Energy, Paradigm and the lost goes on.

Do a little research and you will find that there are many speaker packages offered by the above mentioned companies that are far better than the Bose system. Most of speaker companies offer surround packages between $500 and $1000 that will blow BOSE away.

BOSE is not considered to be anything close to highend in the audio world. BOSE does have a first class unsurpassed marketing department that makes other company's markerting efforts look inferior but the actual products are not worth the money you pay for them even at 75% off. Most people that buy BOSE are not educated abotu audio and video and buy the systems for their looks and perceived convenience.

Ditto, and I did speaker repair for a few years. If you saw what was in them, you would laugh.

Specifically the NS-FP9500's. They look pretty nice. What do you guys have?

I would check out...

The Athena Micra 6. They have received a favorable review here and in other audio mags as well. They can be found here Micra 6

Hope this helps,

Dear fulanito_sf,

After reading your post, it seems that you are interested in a small surround sound speaker system at a reasonable price.

You mentioned Bose speakers.

ABOUT BOSE…

As others hear have stated, Bose is not very well liked here (or on most Hi-End audio forums.) To find out why, follow this link…

http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html

You will learn a lot about Bose speakers.

ALTERNATIVES…

Now what are your alternatives? There are many… The above article will give you a list of alternative speakers.

Here are some other articles…

HOME THEATER 101…

Also, I don’t know if you fall into this category, fulanito_sf, but it’s been my experience that many people who are new to home theater (HT) are also curious about Bose. If you are new to HT, I recommend reading these articles…

Hope this helps.

Go to a stereo retailer in your area and listen to what they have. You will find that almost everything sounds better than B(l)ose.

boooooooose

booooo to bose.
i listened to a pair 601s at futureshop, and at first it doesn't sound that bad, its very laid back and warm. the bass on the towers is better then the cube systems which is nice. But once i switched back and forth between the 601s and a athena as-f2's, it was very clear about the overpowering mids and lacking highs. although if i was given bose speakers, i would probly use them for some sort of background music in a kitchen or bathroom where i dont want them to stand out or have any treble that points them out.

all in all, bose can blow me.

For something you don't have to dink around with that maintains a small footprint, you might want to look into the Hsu Ventriloquist set. About the price range you want (cheaper than the B(l)ose, actually) from a great company that won't stop 'til your satisfied. The best part- you'll get an actual subwoofer instead of merely a detached woofer.

Others that offer far better sound for the same or less money: Monitor Audio, Athena, JBL, & KLH. Okay, the last one will sound about the same, but for 1/4 the price.

Rob, I strongly disagree.

Before I came to this site (when I was shopping around - and eventually bought Sapphires and Mirages) I listened to KLH (also Athena, Klipsch, and others) at a BB. They beat the snot out of [blows]. Yes the KLH are cheap speakers, cheaply built with cheap parts. But they are still light years better than that other companies junk.

And I was trying to be nice to B(l)ose! :p Yeah, I agree with you to a large extent. But we bash them so continually that we often lose sight of the facts. Sure, their product is overpriced crap, but KLH makes a few models that sound even worse. Granted, those models cost 1/15th the price, but I gotta call em as I see em! :D

To be brutally honest, back in the mid/late 80's, I heard their first major sub/sat system- and on one level I was impressed. Few mainstream companies had done the sub/sat deal like that. Of course, once I got over the gimmick factor (the store actually had a big ring & hood over the speakers! ) I realized the sound was pretty mediocre. Yet for the time, it was still rare to get anything resembling decent sound from such a tiny package.

Unfortunately for B(l)ose, the rest of the world kept advancing while they never moved beyond that point.
