I have Sirius internet radio, and listen all the time. That is until a few weeks ago when my employer decided to block streaming audio for all non-IT folk. And its driving me nuts. So, how do I get it back?

Any easy workarounds to the proxy server that would be easy to try?

Can I record Sirius to my computer, or to somehwere I can download when at work?

Are there any internet radios with sirius access that are portable and can record? I could record at home then bring in to work.

Any other ideas?

A proxy server would probably work. I don't see the reasoning behind blocking streaming internet radio for all but the IT people. It makes no sense to me.

You could try TOR. It is essentialy a proxy that is easy to use. Just download the TOR Browser Bundle. It's basically Firefox portable preconfigured with TOR and should stream your Sirius without a problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. It was a good idea, but didnt work. Tor would not connect. It looks like the IT folk already figured that one out and blocked it...

Forget it, a proxy is not going to help because you are being blocked as it comes into your employers network.

Does not matter if the stream is coming directly from Sirius or through any number of proxy servers it is still streaming audio when it arrives at your companies firewall.

I don't know about your companies computer and network access policy. But I would recommend not to mess around too much. Using of things like Tor and proxy servers could easily set off "hacker" alarms and get you into some hot water.

Thats why I thought a portable internet radio would be a good idea. But I have yet to find one that will do what I want.

What phone do you carry? There are Sirius apps for the iPhone, phones running Android, and blackberries. You could always download one of those and stream through your phone.

I'm one of these "Ebil" IT folks whom can and do block access to web sites and protocols. There is usually good reason to do so. Maybe your company have limited internet bandwidth and they want it to be prioritized for critical business apps and processes. Thou music streaming isn't typically huge resource, then bunch of people do it, it does add up quickly.

As others mentioned above you can get streamed Sirius/XM on your iPhone. Probably 3G model should be sufficient or you can try to be nice to your IT folks and ask them for exception for you....

Btw- In my company there is a guy who listens to Sirius Inside the office using regular car receiver, and trust me he's far from any windows or direct sky. I don't know how it's works , but it does. Maybe they have some sort of ground retransmitting stations...

The key word here is "internet".

Unlss you can gain access to the other Internet besides that which comes through your companies firewall, you might be boned.

Sometimes I use my blackberry for pandora (we have unlimited data on blackberries), but its not one of the sirius compatible, sadly.

I have tried a portable car reciever (i have a home dock), but no signal in my office. It would be nice to avoid the expense of another subscription, but if it came to it, I would do it. $4 a month is worth the sanity. I may be moving offices in the near future, and I would have a window there, so maybe it will work then.

My portable car receiever will actually record hours of content from 5 stations automatically. But its a bit of a hassle to use. No sirius signal in my house either, without dangling an antenna outside a window. Another reason hoping they would make the same thing but utilizing the internet.

Maybe you can "loose" your current bb and the company gives you a newer model, hopefully compatible with Sirius app :)
