Hi guys, newb here.

I just found this site while searching for this issue, I'm a member of other online forums regarding A/V so some may recognize me. Anyway, I need a little help:

I just purchase a denon 2808 for a garage music setup to replace a HTIB avr for which i was using for 2.1 (passive sub yuk). I haven't yet purchased a sub for this but decided to try one of my other HT subs. Here is the problem:

The sub is crackling/popping/booming when hooked up to the pre out on the 2808, even if the volume is all the way down I still get this god aweful sound. The Klipsch sub is a small 8in 100 watt and works just fine on my other Denon, but it still should work. Here is what i've done so far to find the issue:

Replaced sub, with my other HT Deftech sub, no luck. replaced sub cable with another RCA cable, no luck. Remove the power plug from the sub and ran it to another outlet via extension, no luck. Removed AVR from metal cabinet, still no luck.

Could this be the pre out is bad? The guy who sold it to me (2808) said it was working in his HT.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a receiver issue to me. Do you have another receiver with a preout on hand to try?

I gotta agree with RM.

If several subs work with other receivers but not this one, it sure points to a receiver issue.

I bought a new sub cable and tried that, still the same. after that I hooked up the klipsch sub to the HTIB Onkyo using speaker level and it worked (no pre out) didn't sound great but it worked.

I've got to return the receiver I guess, that sucks because it was able to push my deftech studio's really well, a lot better than the crappy HTIB receiver.

After an exhausting time trying to figure this out, I informed the seller it was no good and shipped it back. The same day i ordered a Denon avr-791. I know it's got less power so hopefully it will still push my speakers as well, these speakers "need clean power" whatever that means.
