Need some speaker position help. With picture

I am looking to try to have a 7.1 setup in this room instead of my standard 5.1. But the only thing i can think to do to achieve that would be to have in ceiling speakers as well as the stand mount rear speakers. I was wondering if this was possible and would it still retain a good sound? If that is not possible would it be better since my couch is against the wall and there is limited room to do away with the stands and just do in celing speakers and try for a 6.1 setup? The room design is pretty much locked in so moving the couch forward wont be an option to gain the needed room for more stand speakers.

Multichannel will not be an advantage in that room, in fact a detriment. Go with a good 2.1 system and no ceiling speakers.

I see a lot of rooms on these forums that would be better 2.1 and not 5.1 or 7.1. Your room is one of them.

You can't see what he has, from the diagram? Really? What would you do with a blueprint- tell the architect that he needs to provide real photos? Not everyone has AutoCad, you know.

I'm wondering if you would consider reconfiguring the seating layout. If the wrap-around seating is to scale, it might be a bit difficult but if it was my room, I would put the TV on the wall at the bottom. The speakers could be at the sides (using a center channel is optional, anyway) and you wouldn't have any seating positions that are so close to the screen and the L-section is awfully large for the size of the room.

The gap at the top- is that a door? I assumed the one at the lower right is a door, but if the gap at the top is a window, it would help.

thank you for the kind words... if you want to make recommendations based on "stick pics" , that is ok with me. myself, i would like more information = real pics.


btw, that "stick pic" is FAR from a blueprint.

I will try and get some "real" non crap pictures up so you can see the room layout in non stick form.

The main seating location and where I was wondering if I should put the ceiling speakers above or stick with the stand mount ones and just upgrade.

ok. if it were "me", with that gear/room/layout.

i would put the front speakers at the top of the tv. left and right at the top corners. and the center(is there a center ?) in the middle. the rears, just raise em up about 3-4' and experiment with aiming.

as you know. those speakers are small. so don't expect miracles.

Anyway thanks everyone for the the ideas I do plan on getting upgraded speakers which is why I was asking about placement so I know what I need to get. Cuz my luck I would buy some ceiling speakers and find out that they would not work for my setup. So that is why I was asking about what to get so I can upgrade and get the right thing the first time. I can easily work with the front three channels( yes there is a center) but the back ones were where I was stuck, due to space constraints.

ok, you want to get new front speakers. can you move the tv over into the walkway a little ? you could put thin mains next to it, and a center in there somewhere.

I was thinking the same thing, but did not want to scare the OP off. Yes the seats and TV need transposing. That room is backwards.
