Need some knowledge on pairing my Paradigm's and receiver.

Have a pair of Studio V.5 bookshelf speakers.
I had them paired with a Denon 3805 and they worked great.

Recently switched to a Denon 2300W and have some issues, seems that it's not driving the speakers as the sound levels are too low even at max volume.
This unit should be able to drive these speakers right?
Hoping it's a cabling issue and don't need to invest in more power...

Thanks for any insight!

Newbie question. Thought I knew what I was doing. wrong.

Have a pair of Paradigm Studio V.5 bookshelf speakers.
I had them paired with a Denon 3805 that I got from my brother and they worked great.

Decided to buy a Denon 2300W for the streaming goodies and two HDMI outs, etc., and have some issues. Seems that it's not driving the speakers as the sound levels are too low even at max volume.
This unit should be able to drive these speakers right?
Other oddity:
Using the same cables previously used and checked connection, the Denon said I had reversed the positive negative wires, checked it and that wasn't the case, checked again and then decided to reverse the wiring and the receiver said it was correct?? Still have low volume level issue so no clue.

Thanks for any insight on this.

Which Studio, there are the 20, 40, 60, and 100? Unless you have a small room and/or are happy with listening at relatively low spl, the X2300W is not a good match. To get a modernized version of the 3805, you need to get something like the X4300H at the minimum. As for the phase reversal thing, you need to double/triple check one wire at a time from end to end. The auto setup could make a mistake, or it could be due to the room effects, or other factors but this typically doesn't happen very often. If everything checks out correct, then one way to find out is to play some bass heavy music that you are very familiar with. If the phase of one speaker is reversed, the bass will sound weaker. You can also listen to the phantom centre effect. Play some vocal music that you know have a good centre stage, if you can locate the vocalist dead center, then you don't have phase reversal issue, otherwise the position of the vocalist would be appeared to be vague and hard to locate.

Well, the 3805 was rated for 120 watts at 8-ohms, 20 Hz – 20 kHz at 0.05 THD.

By comparison, the X2300W is rated for 125 watts at 6 ohms, 1 kHz at 0.7 THD.

Playing an 8-ohm speaker on a 6-ohm receiver will reduce the maximum wattage.

Also, the rating the 2300’s power at 1 kHz is a significantly less stringent standard than a broadband rating from 20 Hz – 20 kHz like the 3805 has. The former will always generate a higher figure than the latter – which means, the 2300’s broadband power is less than the 3805’s.

In addition, the 2300 gives its rated power at a higher THD than the 3508. If the 2300 was rated at 0.07% like the 3805, it would result in less power.

All things considered, if the 2300 was spec’d like the 3805 at 8-ohms, 20 Hz – 20 kHz at 0.07 THD, its power could easily be half what the 3805 is – maybe even less.

Thanks for the reply, they are 20's so figured they would be fine as they are bookshelf speakers.
Appreciate the info! I'll investigate further, should have done this before I purchased. Ugh.

Geez. Had no idea the power could be so drastically reduced.
Thanks so much for the insight.

@dreilly

Is your 2300 used or reconditioned or open box?
I ask because if someone had set up your AVR using very efficient speakers and also set the volume to be limited, you could get that type of behavior even if the AVR has plenty of power for your speakers.

Are your speakers Paradigm Studio10 v.5's or something like that?
I don't think you have full info on speakers, unless there is some fly by night company selling speakers under the Studio name!
Give us more info!
How many speakers are you running?

It depends, according to Stereophile they are easy to drive, but do have impedance dip below 4 ohms.

https://www.stereophile.com/content/paradigm-reference-studio-20-v5-loudspeaker-measurements

You can the online calculator below to find out the maximum spl you can get in your room with those speakers and the X2300W.

http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html

For speaker sensitivity, instead of the specified 87 dB/2.83V/1m, enter 84 dB to be on the conservative side and to allow for the impedance dips.

For amplifier power, enter 95 Watts (again to be conservative).

If the unit is used, you need to make sure to reset all settings to default, particularly EQ and level settings. Have you run calibration with these speakers with it?
