Need some help on a sub choice.

I know, another newbie with a question about picking out a sub!! I'll first say that i have scavenged the internet for quite some time now about the few subs that currently have my interest. they are: svs pb ultra-13, klipsch rsw-15, rythmik 15", mfw-15. i primarily listen to music with the occassional movie here and there. i have the klipsch rf-7 ht lineup so the rsw-15 would be a no brainer to completing my system. i am just making sure that i could not better spend 1k-1.5k on a sub. the svs really looks stunning to me. i have heard so many opinions about it being not musical. whatever that can mean? the rythmik also has really caught my eye, but i'm not convinced of the smaller amp they are using on a sealed enclosure.

I think the only no brainer would be going with the PB-13 over the Klipsch. I have an MFW-15 and its great at around half the price but if you can afford it go for the SVS

As far as pre-made subs are concerned, the SVS PB-13 Ultra is one of the few that would make my list. They are far and away one of the best commercially made sub manufacturers.

I am a DIY guy, especially with subs, but they (SVS) do a great job. (I have the PB-12 Ultra II in Maple) I have it for sale as well ;)

mustang90 - How big is your room? I have a PB13-Ultra and its good for music, and great for HT. It has tremendous output. It keeps up with my Aperion Towers with Emotiva amp no problem for music, crossed over at 80Hz. It gets REALLY LOUD and CLEAN at the same time. I don't listen to rap music, but a friend loves to play it on my system :)

If you have room for two subs, let me know and I'll let you know how I feel about another sub.

Mustang,

I think you will get a resounding response around here for the Ultra. I as many members have this unit and it is amazing for both music and especially home theater. The build quality and customer service from SVS are all *top notch*. The only other unit that I would consider in this category would be the HSU ULS-15 which is not one on your list but has also gotten very glowing marks. This unit, unlike the SVS, is a sealed 15" if you have any inclination towards a sealed unit.

All in all I would certainly put in another vote for the 13-Ultra....

even though i bought a really nice rsw 15 this week, i still find myself looking at the svs website!! i just wish i could do an a/b test on the two of them. the hsu is a nice looking unit, i'm just not a big fan of the sealed stuff. i'll probably end up getting the ultra 13 to 'test' and see which one will stay...

well, after listening to the rsw-15 a day or so, i'm not totally sold on keeping it yet. the passive radiator reminds me too much of a sealed sub, which it basically is. still eyeing the svs...

Just to throw my dog into the fight I will bring up the MFW-15. I have two of them in a pretty large room and they are impressing the crap out of me. Musical when I listen to music and stellar when I watch movies/play video games. I think the MFW is a fair performer even comparing them to SVS or HSU. Granted the Ultra from SVS is a better performer...but the difference is minor and the MFW is a lot cheaper than the Ultra so I think the value winner is the MFW.

Just my two cents....

I have them seperated. I thought it would help even out the bass response...and it looks better that way.
