I'm helping my Dad buy a A/V receiver for his new Pioneer 5080 Plasma set. His only request is that the receiver provide 7.1 channel surround and HMDI switching and upconverting so that he can run one cable to the TV. I think the Onkyo SR 605 may be the best bang for the buck. He's not an audiophile so I'm not too concerned too much about the 630 watt amp and lack of some of the higher end features (multiple zone play, add HDMI connections, bi-amping) that are found on more expensive models. My concern is SR 605's compatability with his 1) TV and 2) Direct TV HD DVR. Do any of you have experience with this? I want to make sure the Onkyo will deliver both video and sound from the Direct TV HD DVR receiver thru the Onkyo into the TV and TV speakers. Thanks. Would you have any other suggestions, higher or lower end?
