Had the Bose sound touch 300 and sub for a while. What to use it in a small home theater setup. I like it and don't want to get rid of it , but now that I've decided to setup a small theater room. Need advice on using it with receiver. The plan is to add my old sub and in ceiling speakers. so end results would be Bose sound bar , 2 subs, 2 ceiling speakers , and 2 rears (maybe Bose as well). I've heard of using an HDMI splitter with the ARC port(split signal from receiver to sound bar and projector) , but is this the best way and if so does a receiver with 4k pass-through also pass Dolby digital and others

It's not that, but we aren't all that fond of bose. Much better can be had for less money. The fact that their stuff is so proprietary is a big turn off as well.

You'd be better off using a receiver and separate speakers. We can help if we know a budget. If you like the bose then keep it for another TV that doesn't need surround.

Doing it right the first time will save a lot of future headache.

ok I get the objection to Bose .... I never thought I would have a chance to set up a home theater room but here I am :)....AS far as the room we are talking maybe 12 by 15 ... Spent a lot on this soundbar and sub.. so in the future maybe buying a center, two fronts, and another sub will be an option.. This theater is something I hope to put together in about of a year so most of my budget is going on video , furniture , and a receiver that I can build on.... Don't have a set budget and like to keep cost down ...nothing fancy

We still have zero information on make and model numbers of your current gear, and with no budget it's impossible to recommend anything.
1. Clear and concise goal
2 Make and model numbers of your current gear
3. Listening habits movies, music, ? How loud
4. What types of music
5. Which wall is the gear located , how high is the ceiling
6. Is the room open to another room? If yes explain
7.. Budget

Your intention to not waste a soundbar you are happy with is understandable, but, it has no conceivable way to connect with a receiver and yield a workable setup.

Soundbars and packaged sub/speakers are meant to be a self contained AV solution. They are not designed with the expectation of being used with receivers or a mix-match with additional speakers not designed by the manufacturer, specifically for use with the soundbar.

Trying to expand the Bose Soundbar 300 to work with a receiver and speakers not designed to work with it will only serve to frustrate you and be a waste of money.

Even looking at the Bose line up, there is nothing which will give you a receiver and ceiling and rear speakers working with the 300. IMO, go to a Bose shop or call them. They will give you the clearest direction on how to use the soundbar in your intended plan.

The issue with adding a HDMI Splitter is that in theory it will work. But, there timing/delay will be issues which will not get resolved.
