Hi all.

I was wondering if someone could offer me some advice on a little system I saw at Sams Club. It is a Bose system with the Acoustimass Sub, 2 cube speakers and an Onkyo receiver. It is around 350 bucks and I was going to pick it up for my living room flat screen. I am doing a larger more involved home theater in the basement but I just wanted something more than the flat screen speakers upstairs. I know nothing about this stuff and it seems like a good deal. If not can you post something comparable in price that I can try.

Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Is that $350 for everything? The receiver and the three piece Bose system?

Hey Mark, it's this one - http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=410393
I saw it the other day, it's not a full size receiver.
Their not very forthcoming with the specs.

Features:
Acoustimass® module Works in concert with the small speakers to deliver the full range of sound. The patented Bose design produces low frequencies for all channels with no audible distortion. When the module is tucked behind a curtain or chair, all of the sound seems to come directly from the small cube speakers.

Virtually Invisible® cube speakers Single cube speakers each only 3" high that deliver high-fidelity sound for music and movies. Enjoy premium performance from speakers so small you can place them nearly anywhere and they seem to disappear into your decor.

Onkyo CR-325 CD receiver Listen to CDs, MP3s and AM/FM radio. Connect additional sources to the audio inputs. Wide Range Amplifier Technology provides a wide-frequency response and reduced distortion, so all your music sounds true and clear.

It might be OK to augment your TV sound if that's all you're looking for... but then again so would a set of computer speakers like the $30 Altec Lansing BX1121 plugged into the headphone out of your TV (if it has a headphone jack) and you can pick that up from Walmart. The Altecs sound damn good for $30 - I bought a pair for my laptop for a camping trip and was pleasantly surprised by the rich sound.

Thats actually a fairly reasonable deal as far as price. After all, Bose generally has higher prices than that. But performance wise, I can tell you right now this system wont have much oomph or clarity compared to, say a logitech z5500 system, which is has 5.1 surround, 33-20Khz response and plenty of RMS watts. And its only $300 on newegg.com. Those little bose cubes might be conveinient or the sound to size ratio might suprise you. But it comes with the sacrifice of volume, detail, etc... Overall, the logitech system will present more music to your ears. If you want convenience, get the bose. If you want straight up performance at that price, there are some better options.
