HELP!! Newbie - Need Short Term Receiver Recommendation

Bought Paradigm Monitor 90P, CC-370 & ADP370 speakers. Need to stick with "Old Won't Die" Sony 32" XBR TV for about 1 year or so. TV is not Hi-Def and has no component inputs. Thiniking that with HDMI-1.3 coming out, it would make sense to buy TV & Receiver at the same time in late 2007. Till then, I would need a not too expensive receiver ($350 to $500 ish) that will do a reasonable job of driving the speakers for HT & Music. Then, in late 2007, probably look for a receiver such as Denon 3806 / Marantz 5600 level. Does this make sense. Any ideas?? Thanks.

isnt the monitor 90P powered? therefore the receiver will only need to power the center and 2 dipole? speakers

yes it makes sense to buy some cheap temporary receiver (but who knows you might find a use for it some other place or room next time)

I thought the 90P's powered the subwoofer section only but I could be Wrong. Any ideas on a specific model receiver or two to look for??

oops, i dont know anything about the 90p ... ignore me. (then again the 90p has I think 175w RMS, just didn't bother to check if it was for the woofer only) if it was for the woofer, it would still have taken most of the load off your receiver

I've had very good luck with Yamaha
how much is your budget? check out the 659 (or the previous cheaper model 657)

I would be comfortable with any Denon or Yamaha in that price range. Some folks here have gotten real good deals on referbs from UBid and have had no trouble with the equipment. Personally I like new stuff, but that's me.

Couple of questions.

1. Will the Onkyo TX-SR603 receiver work well with future 1080p TV?

2 How important is THX certification? Some posts state that THX gave them much better clarity. Are my speakers capable of handling THX?

Thanks again

THX cert. is not really important; great gear doesn't have to have "THX certification" to be great gear. You're Paradigm speakers are good speakers, they should serve you very well with whatever receiver you match them with.

Refurbished Yamaha

How about a refurbished Yamaha RX-V2500 for <$500. It will have plenty of power and features to run your paradigms for a couple years while all the HDMI and HD formats get worked out.

Thanks for the suggestion. Another thought/worry! My room is about 14 x 22 x 8' high. One side is about 70% glass windows with wood blinds. The back wall has a glass french door. I am wondering if I should have THX to get the Re-EQ effect to minimize the room issues. Any thoughts??
