I need help setting up my home theatre equipment. I have everything working BUT cannot figure out how to record on DVR without having to watch the same channel I am recording.

I have a cable box, JVC HDTV, JVC receiver with surround sound, Panasonic DVR-E80H DVD Recorder. My current connections: Cable to cable box to TV (via HDMI / DVI connection). TV - Input 1 via component cables to DVR; TV - Input 3 S-Video to DMR Out 2 S-Video and TV - Input Audio L/R to DMR Out 2 Audio L/R. Cable Box Audio Out L/R to DMR In Audio 3 L/R. Digital Audio Out from Cable Box to Recvr Digital 1. Cable Box S-Video Out to DMR In 3 S-Video. Recvr Digital 2 to DMR Optical Digital Audio Out.

What do I need to do so that I can record a TV show while watching another? What are the program steps involved to make this happen?

I prefer to keep my Cable Box to TV connection (HDMI / DVI) the way it is for the optimum picture quality.

Thanks!
TH

Do you need the cable box to tune in the stations?

If so, then you will need a separate cable box to the DVD recorder.

In the good old days of analog cable TV and VCR's, A simple splitter with one leg going to the cable readt TV and the other to the cable ready VCR with a built in tuner was all we needed, at least for noon-scrambled programs. Things have gotten complicated lately
