I have an Onkyo 502 75 watts high current 6.1 receiver. Its pushing my Athena as-f1,as-c1,as-r1. I just feel that my receiver is underpowered. Don't get me wrong they sound great together, but I feel the Athena's have potential to sound even better. I am think about replaceing my Onkyo with either a HK or Yamaha. My budget is $400. Any suggestions on a receiver with more juice for my Athena's.

A $400 receiver isn't going to move you up the food chain enough to see a huge improvement over the 502 (unless you look used), though I do think the 502 might not be quite enough to give you everything those speakers are capable of. If you had B1s instead of F1s, it would probably be fine. Do you have the F1s set to small? IMO, you should if you don't. Do you have a powered sub?

$400 receiver

I saw a post for a refurbished RX-V1500 on ubid for $400. That should be a big upgrade from your current Onkyo. Otherwise, you can find the HTR-5860 for about $350 and the Pioneer 1015 for about $400. You might also check for a refurbished mid-fi HK on the Harman Audio store on e-bay.
