I need help choosing a receiver for my home theater system. I have looked around at many different review sites and none of it is helpful. I have just purchased Polk RTi12's, FXi5's, CSi5, and a PSW505. For my speaker wire I purchase Cobalt Cable. I was wanting a receiver that I could run my PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo wii, and my PC through into my Samsung 1080p DLP. This is my first time purchasing equipment like this. Everything else before this was home theater in a box. I really need help with this and look forward to your opinions. I am trying not to spend anymore than $1500. Please Please help me!

The best featured and high value receiver out there right now for over $1000 is the Onkyo TX-SR805. It has more power than anything in its class outside of the Emotiva seperates but they don't have the newest and brightest features the Onkyo has. The TX-SR series from this year is the only receiver line currently that features HDMI 1.3 with Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, and DTS-HD master audio processing all in one unit. This thing is a mamoth, it weighs in at 50 pounds, try finding any receiver with a suggested retail of $1200 that weighs 50 pounds, it isn't going to happen.:D It has Audyssey's must up to date auto set-up as well as a DCDi upconverting processing circuit. Your speakers are not going to be any trouble for this receiver to handle, and if down the line you decide to get more power (unlikely if you still have the Polks) you can get a power amp and connect it via preamp outputs on the receiver.

The marketplace has so many good receivers that picking one can seem daunting. First, any Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha etc in $700 to $1500 is going to sound pretty much the same, so let's get that out of the way. For you, the first order of business is to determine which receivers has the feature set that you need such as having the enough inputs and outputs to hook up all you equipment to it. I have never hooked up my PC to my computer, so I will take a pass on that.

I would suggest setting your budget around $700 since. Spend more for features if needed.

First, that's going to be one sweet gaming system! Second, are there other video components that you're going to want to route through the receiver? You have already listed four. I agree with Seth=L that the Onkyo 805 is a great contender, and it has three HDMI inputs and one ouput. It sells for about $925 on Amazon.com (the silver version is a little cheaper). The Onkyo 875, which should still fall in your budget (I don't know prices, but one post here said that JR had it up for pre-order at $1299), has four HDMI inputs. If you can hook up one of your four video sources through component inputs (or s-video), then the 805 should work just great for you.

Like others have said, most receivers in this class are going to be good, so let the feature sets help guide you. I'd recommend purchasing from an authorized dealer that will let you return it if you don't like it. I'm a big fan of being able to try stuff in my own home.

Thanks for all of your input. I probably should have been a little more specific on the PC part. I will be running the video of my PC directly into my tv, but as far as the audio goes I was wanting to run that through the receiver. I have been looking around and found that Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi has a usb PC port just for running sound from the PC to the receiver. I dont know if Pioneer is the only one that does this or if its becoming a common thing. Also other components that I will be hooking up to my receiver will be an iPod dock, HD digital cable box, and an Archos DVR docking station. I will be using my PS3 not only for gaming but as my Blu Ray player, and I have been hearing that some receivers have been having problems playing the Blu Ray's audio. I dont know if this is true or not. If someone could elaborate on this I would appreciate that. Thanks again for all of you help and patience with me since I am stupid when it comes to this stuff.
